Pope is probably going to ground more than resigning due to bad health and a need to spend more time with God. He was tasked with keeping a lid on unsavoury activities of the churches, but the lid refuses to stay down. He had a choice of either staying within the system & reform the churches or resign to the fact that he will not succeed in his mission & excuse himself from heading the institution. Looks like he chose the later one!!

I don't understand why people aren't protesting that all the houses of the fishermen involved must be demolished because none of them can stand an 8.0 earthquake & people will dies in the thousands because of that.

...you do have that arab man as the figure that sets your moral compass and who constitutes a large part of your identity. You also tend to identify more with all those people who has a similar arab man help define who they are. These truths are self evident. If people are worried that what happened in Japan would happen in India, then they are worried wrongly. An accident at the nuclear plant would be the least of anybody's concerns. An earthquake of that magnitude would level any Indian city completely, there will be very few worrying about nuclear plants. What happens if a meteorite hits? Those are not logical concerns. We simply do not live in the same seismological area as Japan & even Japan managed very well till the last earthquake when pumps used for cooling failed because of flooding of the diesel-powered emergency generators at the Fukushima nuclear power station, it wasn't physical damage to the reactor itself that was the problem.

What happened in Fukushima is not a concern here. The concern is about the potential disaster that could happen in case of any unforeseen circumstances. It is undeniable fact that we need energy and it is also undeniable that nuclear energy could be dangerous under certain circumstances. Given the present situation, a N-plant is a necessity there. But there is also a pressing need for a more safe and green energy source in the not so distant future.

Compassion and love was taught to us by Buddha 600 years before that arab man was born …or 4000 years before by Jain Acharyas, unless ofcourse the ‘us’ you mentioned meant the arabs and Europeans.

Oh you wanna bring up Buddhism. Well lets go into deeper shall we? I personally believe like Dr. Ambedkhar, Buddhism is the nly solution for India and our ppl. This respected person in the entire world expect India investigated every religion and saw flws in each and every one. Do you even know why Buddhism declined in India? Read up on the Sunga dynasty which took over after a Sung general killed the last Muarya King. He then started a process of incorporating Buddhism into Hinduism. Its not just you but millions of ppl who have this mindset. I come from a Christian family descended from Jews. In Kerala, we are known as Knanya and we practice endogamy. I traveled and lived in India for about 3 yrs. it was a great religioous and enlightening experience for me. I had great intellectual interactions with some poor Sadhu's and Hindu priests. I learned so much from them. THey were so honest and just. I was deeply impressed. From their own mouths, they said there is deep rooted corruption in all religions esp. Hinduism. I did not expect them to say such but they did. Religion in its truest simplistic form is great. All religions. It is man who corrupts such for nefarious pruposes. As one yogi stated, Buddhism is the way for our ppl. It has thought as so much about peace, justice, equality, etc.
