What's new

Amir Khan (vs Paulie Malignaggi) shook Madison square garden!

I still remember when he was criticized for representing England by some Arab scholar  and later on defended by other scholars

It was funny but sad to see scholars fighting like that

Ofcourse they will say Allah-hu Akbar, like you hindus say Om Om Jay Jagdesh, Nithyananda ki jai ho etc.:)

So here's my question, why drag religion into everything?

And no, I doubt you'd ever come across Indians, especially in the west who'd yell something like 'jai sri ram' just because their son/daughter won something.

A little off topic, but I find it quite pathetic, its almost as if they have something to prove, like they have an inherent sense of insecurity/inferiority. I mean why else would you shove your beliefs in everyone's face or chant slogans at a weigh in??

Its almost like yelling 'black power' every time Mohammed Ali won a fight. So is it because Muslims in the UK feel like they have something to prove? What's it like being a Muslim in the UK (or the West in general) ?? From what I can tell they feel like they're an oppressed lot.

How does "God is Great" translate into something you are mentioning. Its just the negative press that has made you think that its an issue.

This is not insecurity but Proud and sense of Thankfullness towards our GOD.

And if you are talking about religious slogans than have you ever went out of your house and watched any Basket Ball, Baseball or anyother game in America where all cristian wear Cross during game and after their win they thank God in thier own way!!!!
Every religion has his own way of thanking GOD and this is ours.

Your post seems to be full of jealousy and irrationality.

That guy is a good fighter...probably the best around in his category.

But its hilarious to see Pakistanis getting all excited about him just because he's descended from Pakistani immigrants. One guy was excited just because Amir Khan was a guest at a domestic Pakistani domestic tournament! Seems like there's a real shortage of home grown heroes...
I remember when the Indian origin girl went into space with NASA. An American citizen, was hailed as the first Indian in space. So get real. There is a sense of pride with Amir Khan's victories for Pakistanis. He is Pakistani enough.

Yes this one i agree....wen we Indians celebrated Sunita Williams going to space,They can definitely celebrate Amir Khan winning.

But as Robbie said its always good to have home-grown heroes rather than claiming imported ones.(this is both for Indians,Pak)

I've never seen anyone (let alone a group of people) yelling praise Jesus in a crowd full of people at a sporting event. That sort of behavior is almost unheard of in the states. Thanking god is one thing, yelling in a crowd and making it everyone else's business is a different story altogether.

Trust me, I couldn't care less about a boxer, or Islam, I'm anything but jealous, but when people start viewing everything in life through a religious lens, then we have a problem IMHO. It seems like an identity/insecurity issue to me, but that's a different story altogether and frankly I don't care enough so I'll drop it.
