Khan++ for doing the right thing.

I read an article recently where Amir Khan refused imitate his opponents act of bad mouthing him. This was highlighted in the paper and he earned a lot of respect for that stand. He is often used as a role model here and all his bouts are closely followed.

According to Freddie Roach, Aamir Khan is the quickest boxer he's ever trained. This is a huge deal, because Freedie Roach's star pupil, Manny Pacquiao, currently the pound-for-pound number 1, is supposed to be one of the quickest guys around.

Aamir Khan has a bright future in Boxing. He needs to stick with coach's like Roach. The last thing he wants to do is go down the path of Prince Nasim etc., people who had tremendous talent but just had the wrong people around them. Also, I hear Aamir Khan is quite humble, which is the exact opposite of what Prince Nasim used to be.

Lastly, Aamir Khan is a British boxer, not Pakistani. We can't claim him, it's up to him entirely what he identifies himself as. He did, however, after the earthquakes in 2005, come to Pakistan to provide aid to the affected. Great gesture, and a sing that he is trly connected with his ancestral homeland.

I agree with keeping the Muslim/Jew references out. At the international level, these players don't care about such things and it is a sport, not war.

This fight had EVERYTHING to do with faith. In fact, it was nicknamed "Battle of the Faiths" by everyone. Take a look at this;

(CNN) -- British boxer Amir Khan has retained his WBA light-welterweight title after winning the much-hyped "battle of the faiths" by stopping challenger Dmitriy Salita in the first round on Saturday night.

Khan, a devout Muslim, knocked down his Jewish opponent three times before the referee stopped after just one minute and 16 seconds.

Salita, an American citizen who was born in Ukraine and is nicknamed "Star of David", was unable to follow up his bold claims made in the build-up to the fight, which took place in Newcastle in the north-east of England.

The 22-year-old Khan was successful in his first defense of the belt that he won in defeating Andreas Kotelnik in July.

He is trained by American Freddie Roach, who also guides Filipino star Manny Pacquiao, considered by many to be the best pound-for-pound boxer in the world.

"It was very explosive. The fight was just what we asked for, what Freddie asked me to do. We had too much power for this guy," a delighted Khan told reporters after the fight.

"I'm a growing young man and developing as a man. Freddie said to take it easy, pick the right shots and you'll take this guy out and we did.

"Freddie is a great trainer, he's like a father figure to me and to have him in my corner means a lot. Everyone knows I'm a hard-working fighter and if you put the hard work in you're going to get the benefits.

"After the first shot I could see his legs buckling and I just had to take my time. I knew he was going."

Roach has helped the Olympic silver medal winner to rebuild his career after a humiliating defeat by unknown Colombian Breidis Prescott last year.

"It was a blessing in disguise what happened against Prescott, I got beat and came back stronger," Khan said.

Roach was equally impressed with his young charge.

"I would give him an A+. I said if you hurt him, finish him. We've been working on that power and the fight was really over after that first punch," he said.

He's proud of his heritage and loves to visit Pakistan. The interview was arranged by GEO in which he said that he's a patriot Pakistani just like anyone else. He also said that the green colored portion on his trunks represent Pakistan and the other side represents United Kingdom and that's how its been like since he started his career. I think that says it all.

Yes, indeed. That is why I said it is up to him to decide. He is, obviously, a proud Pakistani. However, my point was simply that he fights out of Britain, and represents British boxing when he fights.

That said, I would absolutely love to see him fight in Pakistan. I guarantee we could fill Gaddafi stadium without a problem.

Formerly unbeaten American Jewish boxer Dmitriy Salita was knocked out on Saturday by Muslim boxer Amir Khan, the former WBA light-welterweight champion, after only 76 seconds in the ring.

Khan knocked Salita to the canvas after barely 10 seconds at Metro Radio Arena. Khan then hurt him with a left, forcing another count, and followed up with a lightning-quick combination to send the New York-based fighter down on one knee.

Salita, who had a Star of David decorating his shorts, got up fast but was unsteady on the ropes, and the referee stopped the bout to give Khan his first defense of a title he won by beating Andreas Kotelnik of Ukraine in July.

Khan is a Muslim of Pakistani decent, while Salita is an Orthodox Jewish fighter of Ukrainian decent who currently lives in Brooklyn, New York. During his free time, Salita also studies at a Yeshiva in Brooklyn.

Few gave Salita much of a shot against Khan, who is considered one of the most talented up-and-coming fighters at 64 kilograms in the world.

"It was very explosive," said Khan, who won silver for Britain at the 2004 Athens Olympics. "We had too much power for this guy. I'm a growing young man and developing as a man. After the first shot, I could see his legs buckling and I just had to take my time. I knew he was going."

Also the fight went on for 72 seconds 10 seconds is a bit exagerated...
I am not at all happy with the result....
Gosh I paid 15 £ for this match and what did i get 10 minutes of wafel with 72 sec of action.
