America's self-inflicted decline

.
Mate you are in denial. Lets just agree to disagree
And WHEN, not if, your opinion is included in that list of sorry failed predictions about the 'collapse' of the US, what will you say to yourself?

.
It is a buffet table of such. According to one Russian 'academic', we were supposed to 'collapse' back in Jun-Jul 2010 and everyone here jumped on that bandwagon. If it did happened, we Americans certainly were not notified.

I though the Debt ceiling debate made a good benchmark of the colapse of the American "democratic repblican" consensus.

Yeah...People gambled on the stock market and made money. Big freaking deal.

I wasnt gambling btw its against my religion to gamble

The one thing I am certain of is this. "'s**t happens' that no one predicts" (and I read a lot of Science Fiction)
Not even SF predicted the manner and time of the fall of the Soviet, and the CIA was clueless. Bush 1 even initially supported the last ditch attempt of the CP to overthrow Gorby.
If in January this year I had read a novel in which Mubarek was overthrown by mass action, I would have thought it a fantasy.

Gambit, opinions are not predictions, and my predictions are estimates of possibilities. An economic meltdown is possible, in which case the curtain behind this Brave New World of Our Ford in the Year 106 will drop, perhaps revealing kleptocratic reptiles from outer space, but without the daily ill-us-ions provided by the consumer society, this country would vanish in regional, racial, and religious violence (baring an "Arab Spring" miracle.)

This will happen eventually, baring even more amazing unexpected miracles, like a new form of energy. But even that only delays the end "All things must pass" sez the atheist of Ecclesiastes. The only exceptions are death and taxes (not Texas, as Rick Perry thinks)

Fine...If you want to posit that an opinion cannot (not 'is not') a prediction, then what are we to make of ANY opinion other than nonsense? A baseless opinion is still an opinion. We just mock the opinion maker for his foolishness. But if you concede that an opinion can be a prediction and that an opinion must be based upon facts, speculations based upon facts, and reasonably logical thought processes, then what are we to make of the sorry history of the opinions/predictions of the collapse of the US and of their makers?
