Here is America's history in terms of years vs. known, written history of the world.

Note that America has been around for roughly 2% of known history. I'm using 4500 B.C. as a starting point, so we hve roughly 8,500 years under our belts as a "civilized" species. What happened in that time when we didn't exist? Was the world a joyous place, full of peace, love, and harmony?

No? Then what does everyone think will happen when we cease to exist? Nothing will change. People will still hate and kill each other. Too many people think "Oh, if ONLY America would just go away. Everything then will be O.K." America is a nice distraction, an easy target, for problems that have nothing to do with the USA.

Globalization has made non-US wars much more unlikely in nations with GDP over 1500 USD/capita.

Even wars between African tribes have been fueled by US weaponry.

And based upon just ONE rating agency at that. The other major ones still has US as AAA.

But here is something for the Chinese members to worry about...

Romance of the Three Kingdoms Novel and History Introduction

The Chinese empire's periodic breakups are so common that such a breakup is contemplated by every generation as a possibility for the next one. So common that it is written into stories. Since the 19th century, looks like the cycles are getting shorter in between.

We have no problems making diplomatic overtures to these soon-to-be former Chinese territories. We have plenty of experience of this with a previous empire that went 'poof'...

Protests in China are proof of our robust democracy. People have the freedom to protest with no fear from the police.

The lack of protests in the US is proof of your regime's oppression. There are no protests in North Korea.

What do you call the 'Tea Party'? And talk about a very bad comparison between US and North Korea. The lack of violent protests in the same vein as in China mean we have far more peaceful ways to effect change whereas the Chinese realize the only way to change China is through violence. If any society that will collapse, it will be China before US.

How many parts do you reckon it will dissolve into? I say at least 20.

An Id say you are right

Old US, made up of Midwest above Oklahoma + Northeast; it will hold onto the entire US nuclear arsenal
Confederate States of America, made up of the entire southeast and Oklahoma.
Republic of California, being California
Republic of Texas, Texas.
Kingdom of Hawaii.

In addition, Washington/Idaho/Oregon will petition to be admitted to Canada, while Arizona and New Mexico petition to join Mexico.

There will be a bloody separatist campaign in Vermont as Vermont tries to declare independence but the regime in Washington refuses to allow them to go. There will also be protests in Alaska which will be brutally put down by the vast number of US soldiers stationed there.

this article makes US to sound like it is headed towards a Yemen or Somalia-like status.

very emotionally written.....I think we can agree that US is not headed in a healthy direction, but that is due to gross mismanagement -- out of control spending, and un-necessary wars, etc.

but U.S. will still be a superpower for some years to come. They wont 'lose' their power without a big fight.

A big fight with its own citizens. The only thing that keeps 1/3 of the population from rioting is the welfare dole. What happens when the USD is no longer the global reserve currency and they cannot afford this welfare dole?

That welfare dole is not a lot. Compared to Europe, Americans get next to no benefits. The US leads the world in pretty much everything, it'll be a while yet until China claims the throne if at all.

And equally emotional are those who grasped onto it as if it really mean something.
