AMCA yet to take off from drawing board

So has the development of AMCA started yet? The date is important to figure out if AMCA will beat LCA's development record.

Its in feasibility study stage with wind tunnel testing and CFD analysis of atleast 3 models is going on. Once feasibility study is complete, DRDO will sit with IAF to discuss what can be achieved and later GOI approval will be reuqired.

given the track record of LCA, this so-called 'indeginous' 5th gen will have IOC by 2042`?

No offense but first try to finish Tejas first and then go along with AMCA maybe? When Indians rush, this is how failed military projects are done...

given the track record of LCA project you can still see AMCA flying in 2018 if we somehow manage to survive 21-12-2012.

India is a poor country, and therefore they have rather limited funds. If the DRDO or HAL does not make project sound ambitious enough they won't get the money. Also the Indian military likes to match itself against China and present a superpower military status, so they place too high of a requirement on weapons, which is also why the projects have top specifications.

Their projects tend to fall behind because they set the goals too high, and their military becomes impatient and buys foreign weapon so they can have the "qualitative" edge over China, further drains the fund and impede their indigenous effort. It is basically a vicious cycle.

Forget about it is still in drawing board and feasibility study, why should India go for AMCA? My points,

-So much learned from the LCA will go in vain if we do not move on in the industry.
-Co developing and making 5th Gen with Russia, then learning process can be applied to AMCA.
-ToT with full tech transfer of Rafale, of which the avionics are equal to 5th gen tech.
-ToT of Rafale AESA radar, DRDO's own AESA air borne radar experience will help for new radar developments.
-Ready help from France, Rafel etc on electronics. co development of engine with France etc.

Apart from US, Russia & China...its us who has most of the conditions are positive for a 5th gen development.

The model looks like a copy of our F-22, a poor copy at best.

I'm not surprised AMCA is still on the drawing board. Indians are waiting to see what they can copy from T-50, which is not done yet.

It's on the drawing board, because it is not meant to be developed anytime soon and they just started the evaluation of requirements. You are confusing the announcement of a the project with the start of the development, but that is not the case. FGFA will be the prime stealth fighter for the close to mid term, while AMCA is only meant to be a long term project.

So it's consistent with the typical Indian projects, big announcement for money, then nothing...

AMCA is being developed to replace the Mig 29UPGs and Mirage 2000s by 2026 or so.So we have got a lot of time in our handsActually,the development work hasn't even started,only the project has been anounced.It's same like LCA project which was announced in 1980 but funding started only by 1993 which you guys always deliberately ignore just to bash our country.

By the way,the question to be asked,do we really need another 5th gen fighter other than FGFA??Don't you guys think that the available resources and man power should instead be used to develop a long range stealth UCAV??I mean most of the techs are already within our reach like a suitable turbofan engine,ability to design and manufacture composite bodyparts,anechoic chambers,satcom links,autopilot,SAR systems,radar absorbing materials etc.

No, it's consistent with any other development in the world. First you announce it, then you evaluate the the requirements and make some feasibility studies and THEN you start the actual development.

No it's not, because these fighters will be replaced by FGFA, which will be in production by then. AMCA if at all, can only replace Jaguars, or beyond 2030 MKIs, which is why this project makes no sense for IAF.

That's the point, at the same time IAF and parts of the industry wants about AMCA development, they also want AURA UCAV, but the first is only because of pride reasons (having an indigenous stealth fighter, just like IN and N-LCA), while AURA UCAV is the way better replacement for the jags. More suitable to IAFs operational needs, more cost-effective and less difficult to develop.
