Therefore the question is when did India started the work on Tejas. Now what part of that statement mentioned full scale founding?
Read that sentence a couple times till you get it.

They weren't "working" the plane at that point (1980).

They were only conceptualizing the idea of an LCA - what it should do, what it should have etc.

You don't call that "working" - I can conceptualize a 6th generation fighter in my living room, does
that mean I'm working on building my 6th gen fighter?

Where did I say that LCA started in 80? I only quoted the original poster. Learn to read properly. Look at the time lines I posted.

What this decision says is that HAL shouldn't pay attention to AMCA and concentrate their entire
resources in fighter-development sector for LCA until the time comes when AMCA will truly have
a genuine role to fulfill in IAF - then HAL/ADA/DRDO can continue their work on AMCA - by
then they would have learnt a lot from Rafale, Tejas, PAK-FA and therefore can deliver AMCA
more proficiently.

AMCA IS NOT A HAL PROJECT, it is an ADA project... please get that, and stop dragging HAL's name into ADA's project.

Making of Super Tejas (MK-2)

SOURCE: VINAYAK SHETTY FOR MY TAKE /IDRW.ORG

According to the sources close to idrw.org, ADA and HAL will start working on the first airframe of Tejas MK-2 by end of this year and first flight of Tejas MK-2 is expected by early 2015 and enters service with IAF by 2018.

Tejas MK-2 will be based on Tejas MK-1, But MK-2 will be larger, able to carry more fuel and weapons payload carry more powerful GE-F414-INS6 engines and technologically will be more advanced.

Tejas MK-2 was born when Indian navy wanted a carrier fighter aircraft based on Tejas MK-1 air force variant, Navy wanted more powerful engines to care out carrier take off, Navy also wanted changes in Airframe for carrier role, and IAF sensing an opportunity that a new and better variant of Tejas can be developed based on Indian navy requirements, was quick to grab this opportunity and pressed for development of new variant, even when Tejas MK-1 was able to fulfil ASR of IAF.

Tejas MK-2 will have improved avionics, Upgrade of Flight Control Computers, in flight refuelling retractable probe, On board oxygen generation system and a new Electronic Warfare Suite , to avoid delays to the program , Earlier Tejas Prototype ( PV-1) has been assigned with the MK-2 program and will act has the test bed for MK-2 program.

MK-2 will also get new improved pilot friendly all glass cockpits which will have larger and better screens to reduce pilot fatigue; India has already placed orders with General Electric (GE) for 99 F414-GE-INS6 engines which will produce more thrust than previous F404 engines which power Tejas MK-1. F414-GE-INS6 engines feature a Full Authority Digital Electronic Control (FADEC) system.

Development of AESA radar has already begun but will be integrated with Tejas MK-2 when it is fully certified; leading to speculate that first Block of MK-2 will come with current MMR radar which is already integrated in Tejas MK-1.

so basically mk-2 will be based upon naval LCA which means it shouldn't take much time in development....India has already ordered engines for mk-2 from general electric that's why their is no rush for the kaveri to be developed quickly

The majority of the time no one gives IDRW the time of day- so why is everyone taking this news so seriously?

Naturally an increased effort in the LCA specifically MK.2 work will impact the AMCA project to an extent but only momentarily.

Very good move.... better put our resources into existing projects and improvement of our production facilities instead of designing 5th gen fighters when we have not even built a successful 4th gen fighter yet

I don't know what the holy CRAP is wrong with members here!

AMCA was never asked for by the IAF.

It is only HAL/ADA that have proposed to pursue development of technology related to 5th generation aircraft.

But IAF did not candidly reject AMCA. In fact, it gave out the ASRs for AMCA 2 years ago after waiting for 2 years. WTF was that for!?

This is where the immature behaviour from IAF in a way contributes to projects getting hit or delayed.

That development will continue. But what is changed is that money will not be spent to develop the AMCA as a plane in it's own right now that it has been put on hold to allow HAL to concentrate on Mk-1/2 of LCA first.

That is very important I agree with you.

This is a face saving move by MOD. Rather than admitting Indians don't know how to build an ACMA, they said it's delayed so they won't be looking so bad. This won't help LCA. LCA will miss whatever deadline this year and continue to be a late-coming-aircraft.

There is no face saving attempt in this decision if MOD would have thought that they aren't capable to make a 5th gen. fighter then we would have started an jv with either France,South Korea or Japan.....the development has been delayed due to the fact that LCA is taking too long and our Air force needs it badly we should finish it first before moving on to a 5th gen. fighter

Trolling in every thread?

no offense but these fancy names like super sukhois and now super tejas are laughing stock .....i have left posting in defence section whether it be Pakistani or indian because of the day dreamers ...i dont know whether your media gives such names, or the fan boys or the armed forces but they sound too awful .... even the americans dont call raptors as super raptors leave alone the 4 and 4.5 generation aircrafts to be called as super xyz

on topic it was expected ...an organization struggling to develop a 4th generation aircraft on their own and lingering it for decades now can't develop a high end 5th gen aircraft on its own....

btw better luck with lca and super xyz
