Amazon eyes expansion in Pakistan, eager to capture e-commerce market

See this is the problem, lack of vision.
Do you know how many "common" Pakistanis make crafts? Let me tell you, there is alot. No imagine if they can sell their stuff all over the country by just posting it on Amazon and shipping it. Their business would grow exponentially. This isnt just limited to crafts, heck you can sell dirt.
@KAL-EL ain't I right? Now imagine if they could sell those globally too, and they will be able too. Whenever I go to pakisran I bring back small handmade gifts, they are amazing and make great gifts.
I never said anything about Amazon and i don't oppose it heck i would be rooting for amazon to bring their operation to Pakistan, i was talking about youtubers how would youtube help a common Pakistani?

By the way eid Mubarak!

2 main ways. Entertainment and reforming ads, thus helping Pakistani companies.
Eid Mubarak

It will increase imported goods in Pakistan and will increase current account deficit so it should not be allowed ,we already have daraz.pk and not need expensive imported u.s products which will result in dollar outflow from economy

is daraz.pk As good as Amazon if not better? Serious question, as I am very familiar with Amazon but not daraz.pk

It is good but in Pakistan most vendors are involved in fraud and deliver wrong and different product than which is mentioned on ad . If amazon come in Pakistan it will face same problem and it will not be easy for them to maintain quality due to our public bad habits and dishonest attitude

Should keep these folks out of Pakistan, they kill local markets
Bro read carefully they are bringing us into supplier list hence our products will be available on Amazon ... this is infact a great oppotunity specially for small manufacturer

What about reciprocal access? Would Pakistan have to open its market (unrestricted) to amazon suppliers from abroad; such as India?

We need to force our industries through FDI and policy reforms to become more competitive

If Amazon just wants to allow Pakistan exporters to export via its platform, then that's fine, it is even fine if they want to ship between buyers and sellers inside the country. the key is importing products from abroad that will undercut investment in local manufacturing industries. once Amazon is in it will usurp the power of the government to govern what can and can't be imported into Pakistan, who can advertise on its platform, and will use the leverage of its business to impose political demands from the government.

If we build up our own industries for a few years ahead of Amazon, just like Careem with ride-sharing/taxi business, the local consumers demands will be catered to and foreign business will have to compete on local terms.

"E-Jugaad" need to be started by the government so that all sets of the process have a local competitor. Give the local business chances to build up so they can compete. A 3 year window, and bring in Amazon for all but imports until then.

It can be done today as well ... there is no restriction ... currently ali express is selling it in Pakistan ... although for bigger products duties r imposed ... but thats a totally different topic and both facilities r independent ... for example ali express do not have Pakistani suppliers but are selling in Pakistan ...

Recently, officials from Amazon U.S. have reached out to Pakistani manufacturers to initiate the process of getting Pakistan listed as an approved country to sell from. Amazon officials have also ensured that every effort would be made to make the process of selling on Amazon easy for Pakistani nationals.

It will help Pakistanis export by being able to sell on Amazon for customers in other countries to buy. That is a good thing.

This does NOT mean Pakistanis will be able to buy items from Amazon supplied by other countries.

Our industry is not mature and quality of products is so low that even our own public not buy products made here and prefer imported goods. We can only offer some textile products and nothing much.Amazon wants to enter Pakistan to avoid trade war effects with china and many investors or retailers will setup warehouses here and buy products from china and then supply chinese made products to u.s markets from Pakistan. On the other hand our public love for imported products will increase imported goods to Pakistan
