Altay & Turkish Main Battle Tank Programs

No, there is no lack or misunderstanding.
Otokar Defence Systems has the capability,
there is a very little difference to switch between heavy armored IFV and tanks.
If you wanna ask me, if already a production line is present ? I would answer NO.
But thats apple and pears.

Hayirli olsun

MaşAllah... National transmission systems and national engines fill a huge gaps of Turkish land projects.

Tümosan Altay tank motorunu beceremeyip projeden ayrıldı. Artık bu başlık altında anılmasının anlamı yok.

Bana kalirsa Beceremeynen alakasi yok zamaninda belirnenen ihale kosullari yerine getirilmedigi icin mecburen sozlesme feshedildi. Ihale sarti yurtdisi technik destekyiciydi. Msi dergisinde okuduguma göre tümosan sözlesmenin degistirilmesi istemis kabul görmemis.

Usta, çoğu şey bilinse de, ülke içi rezillikleri yabancı dilde yazıp da ele güne reklam etmeye gönlüm elvermiyor.

In 2015, Tümosan a company of ALBAYRAK Group was chosen by the ruling party AKP as the local developer of
"indigenous tank engine".

Turkey’s tractor manufacturer, TÜMOSAN, has said it will focus on defense technologies and rail systems in addition to its main business activities, during a press meeting on Oct. 22.

The company will start the development of an indigenous tank engine by 2016 and plans to start production by 2020.

The company signed a 190 million-euro contract with the government to design an engine for the Altay, a new-generation tank the country is developing.

TÜMOSAN’s Power Group Development program signed the contract on March 17 with the country’s procurement office, the Undersecretariat for Defense Industries (SSM). Last August, Turkey’s top procurement panel, the Defense Industry Executive Committee, tasked SSM with opening contract negotiations with TÜMOSAN.

After a five-year preparation process, the company has been ready to start development works, said TÜMOSAN CEO Kurtuluş Öğün in a follow-up press release.

The company will receive technical support from Austria’s AVL.

“In line with the conditions set by SSM, we expect to see the release of some 25 percent of the contracted 190 million euros and to start development works by 2016 after a technical support deal with AVL. We plan to start production by 2020,” he said.

But TUMOSAN recently announced that it terminated its contract with the Austrian company due to unresolved disputes over export licences.

A statement from the Turkish company said: “Under the contract [with AVL] the company had to provide us with the necessary [Austrian] government licenses within 90 days. After the company’s requests for extension for several times it became clear that the Austrian government insisted on issuing export licences on conditions that it would be interfering with the domestic [political] affairs of Turkey. After those conditions were rejected by SSM [Turkey’s procurement agency, the Undersecretariat for Defense Industries] our company canceled the Technical Support Provider agreement [with AVL].”

TUMOSAN has the perfect brand name to manufacture engines, it stands for Turk Motor Sanayi so this brand name is made to manufacture motors their tractor side should be defunct.

In my utopic world TSKGV would of acquired Tumosan and then would of got rid of its tractor business side then merged TEI(crap brand name) with it and turned Tumosan brand in to an engine manufacturing power house like Rolls Royce it would of manufactured engines for Air, Land and Sea. :-)

Also I smell crook business going on with the Altay tank engine tender. I think they are setting up bmc for the tender I hear bmc brought foreign engineers to Turkey and they are after the tender and since they are close to the ruling party it seems they will get the deal, who knows what goes on behind closed doors.

Its too bad for Tumosan they build up a team and know how about designing engines and transmissions and yet no tenders.

Defence Minister said the serial production will start in May...

Ortada motor yok ama seri üretim başlıyor. Bu millet bunu yer mi? Bence yer.

Finally...

We need to avoid misunderstanding here. Serial prouction will not start in May. Transition to serial production process will start in May. Like who is gonna produce it, at what cost, in which time table, with what components, etc.

@1683 you should be more carefull about giving reliable information in order to stay relevant.

Defense Minister Fikri Isik has said Turkey will start mass production of its main battle tank in May this year.

Speaking at an opening ceremony of a hospital in northwestern Sakarya province Tuesday, Isik said the Altay battle tank had passed all its tests successfully by the end of February.

“We will push the button on mass production in May. We will have a decision about Altay tank's mass production in May if nothing goes wrong," he said.

Referring to the Turkey-made helicopter Atak, the minister said: "We gave the 20th Atak helicopter to the Turkish Armed Forces in central Konya province.

“The weapons on the helicopter are also largely made in the country. We have watched it shooting", adding the ability to manufacture your own helicopters is a source of pride for Turkey.

Isik said Turkey is also producing its own infantry rifle that had passed NATO's 42 tests successfully. He added that Turkey makes its own drones, ships and satellites, and the country will maintain its path to progress.
