LONDON: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain on Tuesday requested Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to hand over the administration of Karachi to the Pakistan Army, Express News reported.

Commenting on the ongoing violence in the city, Altaf said the Sindh government has completely failed to protect the residents of Karachi from criminal elements.

He added that the people of Karachi, particularly the traders, are hoping to be rescued by the armed forces as the police and Rangers have failed to do their job.

Violence in Karachi is on the rise again after a brief respite, with 12 people being killed in the city on August 25 including the Ahle Sunnat Waljamaat spokesperson.

A recent fact-finding report by the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) claimed that the paramilitary force present in the city was an agent of fear, instead of an agent of security.

In its report, the human rights organisation took up 11 recent cases of abduction, extra-judicial killings and torture allegedly by the Rangers and observed that the Rangers had abused their power and not disclosed charges against abducted persons.

Don't take his bait, he is trying to create a civil war in Karachi.

We need specialized swat teams and rapid response units with active 24/7 surveillance to purge the city of anti state actors.

Altaf must be removed from power along with this party and fresh elections need to take place.

Karachi is an important business centre and for us to prosper as a whole we need the city operating at max capacity where business can be done without any fears from extortionists or terrorists.

Our vision of a Pakistan growing at 8-9% can only be realised by fixing Karachi, and it begins by removing this idiot from our politics.

Karachi needs an operation across the board. May it be MQM, ANP, PPP, Amn Committee, Sunni Tehreek, etc etc. Recently I visited one of the branded shopping malls and I was surprised to see a particular lingual group in abundance, allegedly involved in extortion. Their turn out did not correspond to the amount which was coming out their pocket, that too cash. This is a clear evidence that extortion money is being spent openly and criminals are thriving in this city.

There should be a thorough operation cleanup, which Karachi police is really incapable of; not because they cant but because they dont want to and are party to such crimes.
Solution to Karachi problem is not simple, it would require formation of special group, hand picked, preferably from armed forces special services. Let the city be closed for one or two months and sweep, sweep & sweep. Arresting and taking them to court is also not the solution, as its easy to get out. Just encounter.

IF KARACHI is given to army. and army conducts an operation against ALL TERRORISTS will MQM not cry about being targeted?

saddest part of Pakistani politics is that if any political party criminals are caught they say its a SAAZISH.

and besides why would we want to give Karachi to army? why not just deweaponise it and seal it from outside weapon supply.

Latest:Nato arms being used in Layari Karachi

15-20 % area of Lyari under gang control.ambulances being used to transport arms in the city.

Remember Supreme court heard case on missing containers filled with Nato arms went missing in Karachi .They were in range of 15000 during MQM Babur Ghuri port and shipping ministry during Musharaf era and Q league government if i remember correctly.

Even ANP is saying from years that give karachi to army but the ppp and mqm killer alliance did not do that.

ISLAMABAD: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) deputy convener Farooq Sattar has stated that his party’s military supervision in Karachi demand is lawful and democratic, Express News reported on Tuesday.

Sattar’s statement comes in response to Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Khursheed Shah.

He quoted numerous articles from the constitution while emphasising Article 149 Clause 4 stating that a demand military administration in Karachi is legal.

Sattar said that over the last 25 years, the provincial government in Sindh have imposed Rangers in accordance with Article 149. If military supervision is against democracy then the existence of Rangers in the province is also undemocratic since they are not a civilian force, he said.

He reiterated that the Sindh government had failed to control violence in the city and that military supervision in such a situation is necessary.

Commenting on the ongoing violence in the city, he said that Karachi residents are compelled to migrate to other areas as a result of extreme violence.

He further said that if police and rangers cannot provide protection then who else can be requested to control the situation.

He highlighted Pakistan Chief of Army Staff General Kayani’s statement that the real threat to the integrity of Pakistan is not from abroad but from within. He mentioned that the former statement has been given multiple times and it is justified to say that rangers and police have failed to provide protection in the city.

Altaf calls upon PM Nawaz to handover Karachi to army

KARACHI: Chief of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Altaf Hussain on Tuesday called upon Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to hand over administrative affairs of Karachi to army in order to root out the violence, SAMAA reported.

“The Sindh government has completely failed in protecting citizens especially the trader community from gang-war Lyari elements, extortionists and terrorist of Lyari,” said Altaf Hussain in a statement from London where he has been living in self-exile for several years and heading Karachi-based MQM, the former coalition partner of PPP in Sindh and central governments.

“The police, law-enforcement agencies, Sindh government and city administration of Karachi seems non-existent in violence-hit areas of Karachi despite loss of lives and public properties,” Altaf said.

He said that the PM should issue directives for handing over administrative affairs of the city to military to ensure the protection of traders. “The oppressed people and traders of Karachi are now looking towards the army as a last hope.”

The MQM chief vehemently condemned bomb and rocket attacks against Lyari’s Katchi community which left the area following the violence and migrated to Sindh. However, hundreds of Katchi people returned on Monday.

Violence continued in the restive Lyari where firing incidents left nearly 15 people including women as two more bodies were also recovered from one of the oldest localities of Karachi. – SAMAA

Non Karachiites have no right to speak about Karachi as they have absolutely no idea of what is going on in Karachi.

Karachi needs an operation across the board. All that, too, can only happen after a proper operation is completed as the gangs are way too organized and armed to be taken out by small rapid response teams.

Why not shut down illegal production facilities that produce weapons before initiating any de-weaponization drive??? And there is no possible way to ensure successful blockade of weapons entering Karachi from their illegal production havens.

Go for the root cause, eliminate illegal production and soon it will be much easier to de-weaponize the whole country.
