What's new

Almost all of the country’s 30 mobile phone assembly units, including three run by foreign brands have shut down in Pakistan

.
Somebody actually wants no manufacturing/assembling in Pak.

Last year in July:

what has this got to do with factories shutting down? mqm/tlp whoever it is have always done this and yet the business has boomed (ex-mqm guys joined sunni tehreek, due to sectarian affiliations, and now tlp, when sunni tehreek disappeared). besides, one mobile market in karachi does not spell the doom of manufacturing, there are many more in khi itself, and hundreds more in rest of the country.

the business is being ruined because of restrictions on imports. and the import-assemble-sale based business model of the saiths, where nothing is made in house. there are companies in islamabad producing PCBs and motherboards for defence systems with far less revenue and capital in hand than these saiths. and yet the saiths with billions in their pockets do not want to even assemble the board through a SMT line, they just want to import, put in some screws and sell it to local population (for ref, here is the overview of the company that setup the samsung plant: https://profit.pakistantoday.com.pk...rsification-strategy-begins-to-pay-dividends/ ). just lucky cement's (a company in the group emntioned above) net profit was about 36 billion rupees for fy21-22.
