Let's decide post independence time in 2 equal parts first 35 and second 35 years. Now look at the PM of independent India in those times. the difference in quite clear. Only 1 term to Rajiv Gandhi in second 35 years term, while in first 35 years 80% was ruled by Nehru/Gandhi family.
So yes for immediate post independence period, your argument holds water. But then Indians don't have much of options in those times. No means of communication. Backward and illiterate population was the reasons of Dynasty rule.

It doesn't sound very democratic, how come democracy chooses successive leaders from a single family and meanwhile in supposedly autocratic country China no leaders are family related. Freedom of Choice is a big irony here.
