LAHORE (Daily Dunya) - All four provinces have approached Russia for purchase of eight helicopters, reported Roznama Dunya on Thursday.

. .
Makes sense for regional usage, would it be the Mi-19 or we discussing the Mi-35 for Patrol and Transport of folks

Since we don't manufacture Helicopters locally , we have to meet demands of local Cities and Provinces for security or transporting emergency cases or perhaps even important people

I would imagine we are Talking about Mi-19 Civilian versions

purchasing civilian version of Mi17 for VIP transport.
Sir this is quite strange however dont you think? With that deal of AW139 a few months back all of us were hoping that more AW139 will be bought for the VIP transportation role by provinces. Now they have selected Mi17 version, limiting the chances of anymore AW-139. So we will just be operating a few of those. Logistic nightmare.

Just asking - Can AW139's be MRO'd like Mi17's, inside Pakistan?

Mi-17's on the other hand have been going through MRO's since 2014 at Army Aviation in Pindi.
No reason why Govt. civilian aircrafts, of the same type, cannot use this facility and save on foreign exchange.

AW139's are costly to buy, and costly to operate, in comparison to Mi17's. But the reliability, and performance is obviously a world apart as well.

MI 17 has more than 100 million hours of flying, its a reliable machine, easy and cheap to operate and most importantly Pak Army has all facilities to maintain these helicopters, good decision I guess

I dont think we have that kind of facility for AW139 and that is what i was crying about when we bought the few AW-139 a few months back. It didn't made any sense back then to buy 8 10 choppers of a new type. However it was said that we will buy MANY more of the same kind and one main user was the provincial governments for VVIP transportation. Now with Mi17 selected for that i am not sure if we will buy more of those quite expensive AW139 and if we do not, i fail to see why we bought such a low number to begin with. :(
