Video suggests higher Bangladesh protest toll

Video footage obtained by Al Jazeera appears to contradict official death toll from May 6 violence in Dhaka.

Al Jazeera has obtained video footage suggesting that the Bangladesh government has been providing inaccurate death tolls from recent violence.

According to official figures, 11 people had died during fighting between police and protesters from Hifazat-e-Islam, an Islamic group, on May 6, a day protesters refer to as the "Siege of Dhaka".

Human Rights Watch, a US-based rights group, said that the exact number of deaths resulting from the protests are "unclear".

"Independent news sources put the figure at approximately 50 dead, with others succumbing to injuries later," HRW said in a statement on Saturday.

In an interview with Al Jazeera, Bangladesh's Foreign Minister Dipu Moni downplayed reports of inaccuracy in government figures.

"There can always be an inquiry, there can always be an investigation," said Moni.

"The government or most of the people in the country doesn't even think that there was any controversy with the matter," she added.

Abdul Jalil, a deaf and mute grave digger at Dhaka's state-run cemetery, communicated that he buried 14 bodies of bearded men with gunshot wounds after the protest, all at night.

The rights group wants an independent inquiry to find out what happened once and for all.

Awami League not only committed genocide but also dumped body in the middle of the night. This news further proves it. Awami League foreign minister Dipu Moni might just parroted Awami league official line but she now implicated herself on crime of genocide.

it is true many died but no one know how many
no mercy was shown
more than the government i blame the police and RAB / BDR are the one who shoot (don't know if they are real cops or not )
the police did what happened in during independence (Sorry don't get me in a wrong way,)

if Al Jazeera wants to show it then good so international criminal court or case can be brought against those who did this

Sorry my friend, cant agree to that. Police, RAB, BGB, Army, they obey orders from the government. They even do not have the permission to shoot unless they are given orders to do so. They do not make the policy, the govt (MPs) does. And who's leading those MPs is PM. So, open your eyes to see the real culprit.

I don't support killings of Innocent Muslims, but i am wondering what the Kings and Amirs of Middle East would have done in this kind of situation. The thirteen point of Hefazat is valid in the point of view of the shariah, but their leader should have realized that we are living under man made law for about 260+ years. People are not ready to live under 13 points. They should have make the people ready before bringing these points forward.
