The Aselsans flirs are to heavy to be put on Tactical platforms. These Canadian ones are lighter, therefore more appropriate. This is a good choice to make. When we tried to force our flirs on platforms you just get a clusterfuck like with our Herons. They made a drone according to to their own designs and vision instead of building one around a flir system. Good for them.

Aselflir300 is heavy but CATS not, due a part what is categorizes as sensetive parts is not given licence so Aselsan have to design and produce a part what is really expensive. CATS weigt 61 kg and Aselflir was 95 kg.WEscam was 45kg, but the specs against CATS is poor. Ther are options like Multi Target tracking, Determination of Coarse and Speed of Moving Target and it is Full HD. Wescam is a good standart Flir system....

CATS is and older Model Improved version of CATS which is often called DASS has better specs But We Still couldn't able to produces equal IR sensor to Wescam's. If We were able to do that Aselsan would invest in order to reduce the Weight. But Afaik We are not there yet.

It wasn't exactly like that. The Turkish Army changed demand. They wanted a FLIR that could observe the wider area. That's why DASS was developed.

The tradition in the Turkish Army: They change what they want in the middle of the project!!

Of course we are still not in the desired situation with regard to SWIR type sensors, sensor resolution and FLIR weight. But I think we are moving fast. I hope that we will close for 3-5 years.

Producing flirs or whatever it is should be in our priority list. We shouldn't keep this important product out of our hand. Why we have uav if we can't produce important parts of it : engines and flirs.

TSK doesnt use inferior products Even if it is locally made. This is the Main reason Our local companies are striving for cutting edge technology. What you are suggesting is the mistake Iran made even when They could buy foreign weapons. We have a system that is working great No need to change it.

that might be the reason why we do not have any engine for altay.. or not an industry that is capable of it.. things need to develop.. companies need to have opportunities and appetizer without that I would do what turkish industry is doing now.. not to go into risky projects and invest money in science and projects with unknown outcome...

iran did for herself great in their drone and missle technology even their sam systems may be enough for them..
