Air Force version of ‘Akash’ missiles test-fired

Are you serious? A race implies common starting blocks and no inherent advantages by either side. If this is a race India has already won.
Only two countries have terrain hugging stealth missile technology, India have no real cruise missile.
There is no advantage of their ABMS system, they will never know From where terrain hugging stealth CM is coming and and hitting.Tell them, Keep their ABMS system into their pocket:D

yes, we saw in abotabad raid. Those missiles(painted chinese tin-cans) never took off. ;)

their starting point is H&D and it ends up with GUBOing to US and China.

Ever heard of a CM called Bhramos or Nirbhay. you will say it is not stealth. Can you explain what is stealth in terms of CM?

does it matter when it is supersonic? :azn:

IAF = most corrupt and pathetic airforce in world.

Add the Indian army to the list as well....they are even more corrupt....my uncle who runs a hotel near this huge military base was harassed and the base commander was asking for bribe to let the hotel function....when my uncle refused he sent a gang of rough looking thug soldiers and they destroyed half the hotel by force ...later my uncle filed a case against the army and the court issued some order against the army....when the top guys in the army learned of this the base commander was taken to task for "harassing civilians" and he was transferred to some other place .

BALASORE: India today successfully test fired its two indigenously-developed surface-to-air 'Akash' missiles of Air Force version with a strike range of 25 km from the Integrated Test Range at Chandipur.

"Two Air Force version Akash missiles were test-fired from the ITR in quick succession. Both the trials were successful and met all the mission objectives," ITR Director M V K V Prasad said.

The anti-aircraft missiles, with a strike range of 25 km and capable of carrying warhead of 60 kgs, were test fired from a mobile launcher at launch complex-III of the ITR.

The trial, which formed part of the country's routine air defence exercises, was conducted at around noon, said an official of Defence Research Development Organisation (DRDO) associated with the Akash missile project.

To re-validate the technology and operational efficacy of the missile, defence forces conducted the trial with logistic support provided by the ITR, the official said. The Akash weapon system, which has its Army version too, was inducted into the armed forces in 2008.

Today's test-fire came after similar trials conducted from the same test range on May 24, 26 and 28.

"During the trial, the sophisticated missiles were aimed at intercepting floating object supported by a pilotless target aircraft at a definite altitude over the sea," sources said.

Akash, an anti-aircraft defence system, can simultaneously engage several targets with 'Rajendra' radar developed by the Electronics and Radar Development Establishment (LRDE), a DRDO laboratory in Bangalore.

'Rajendra' does the surveillance, tracks the target, acquires it and guides the missile towards it.

The development of Akash missile took place during 1990s under the country's Integrated Guided Missile Development Programme (IGMDP) and after many trials, it was inducted into the armed forces.

The DRDO has developed both the Air Force and Army versions of the Akash missile.

Rajendra is a 'passive phased array radar'. It is a multifunction radar, capable of tracking as many as 64 targets and controlling up to 12 missiles simultaneously.

Defence experts have often compared Akash missile system with the American MIM-104 Patriot surface-to-air missile system.

They claim that similar to the MIM-104, the Akash is capable of neutralising aerial targets such as unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), fighter jets, cruise missiles and air-to-surface missiles. :toast_sign:

Air-to-air missile types are recognised in three distinct categories: highly agile Within Visual
Range (WVR) missiles; less agile but longer ranging Beyond Visual Range (BVR) missiles; and
very long range BVR missiles.
While the divisions between the latter two categories are less distinct compared against WVR
missiles, the longer ranging weapons are often quite unique and usually much larger, to
accommodate the required propellant mass.
While Akash (आकाश "Sky") is a medium-range mobile surface-to-air missile defense system.

As per my knowledge the only diff is in vehicle all other systems are same so whn it success it is success

India has a sports car called BrahMos and an upcoming cricket ball called Nirbhay.

Our ABMS are for 'balistic missiles' and not for cruise missiles.

Earlier lakshy PTA was modified to imitate the trajectory of a terrain huggin cruise missile and army's air defence corps has already practiced shooting them down. Tunguska ADS will be used to shoot down cruise missiles which fly with the speed of a commercial airliner.
