What has global influence got to do with missile range. Do we have any adversary? Why waste money unnecessarily?
Also, it will threaten those who are our friends, we dont need that.

As a rule of thumb, As ones influence grows,its enemies does grow. If not right row, will be in future. Better be prepared than sorry we screwed it up too.

But an excuse should have been put in a best wording. He should have said that the Indian nuclear submarines would need missiles with over 10k km range to take on china from anywhere in case of a war.
This way, you dont piss-off NATO and Russia in a direct hit.

Just attach china to every ICBM article, US dont even care

Yesterday i said, AGNI V is enough for India as it will cover all possible threat. But Now i changed my mind. India should go to AGNI VI having range of 10,000+. India should be in category of Global Power in a decade.

Our ballistic missile however are not all used for nuclear weapons. Like battlefield BM's and they are assigned to the army as such as well. Secondly, to overwhelm defences, even in a nuke strike, you dont need to put a nuke on all the missiles being launched. They act as decoys while letting the nuke equipped ones to go through.

I know there is a cost attached to having an inventory of cruise missiles. But we do need them in huge quantities. There are no two ways about it. There is merit to the point that you dont need such a number of BM's, but you do need a huge number of CM"s in a modern war.

I think with that money, the government should instead set up production factories for missiles. Let there be 10,000 Agni V's. & 25000 Cruise Missiles(Both BrahMos & Nirbhay). In case of a war, 1000 CM's should be up in the first hour.

The government should create capacity such that the Armed Forces are able to overwhelm all of Pakistan's defences and put a dent in the military bases of lower half of China.
That would be a better use of those 2.2bn dollars.

I completely agree with you for dealing with both china + pakistan we need thousands of balletic as well as cruise missiles.

1.) The huge size, scale of china + growing anti missile technology/systems.

2.) Obviously we will be the 2nd to retaliate so being first mover pak or chin will destroy hundreds of our missiles in India itself before we can do anything about it.

To over come these situations we need to have 10,000s conventional balletic/cruise missiles + over 500 with nukes.

Agree an SLBM is much better and reliable for purposes of second strike . Nevertheless at a certain point of time , we have to expand our military reach and power projection consummerate with our expanding Global clout.

We need to get technologies like ASAT etc in our arsenal to counter all possible threats. It isn't wise to always pre-assume we shall never face a threat from America and thereby forever limit our role to being a regional power not a global one .


These things are gradual and hopefully the DRDO working on them now would mean in 2020 or so we can deploy if needed .
