Ahsan Iqbal severely condemns Dawn’s CPEC ‘master plan’ article, terms it Dawn Leaks II

Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal on Monday has criticised an article published in Dawn claiming to be an “original plan of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC)”.

Furthermore the national daily also claimed that the documents have been made available to the public for the first time. The article claimed to reveal “what Chinese intentions and priorities are in Pakistan for the next decade and a half, details that have not been discussed in public thus far.”

Iqbal, severely condemned the article stating it to be “Dawn Leaks II.” “I am appalled by Dawn Leak II. CPEC long-term plan story based on working documents to distort final draft taken up with NDRC yesterday in Beijing,” the planning minister said in a tweet.

Iqbal went on to add that Dawn had not contacted him or the ministry to confirm the facts. He further stated in a tweet that this is an attempt to defame the CPEC by promoting fears.

Iqbal further mentioned in a tweet that the long-term plan could not have been disclosed by Pakistani government without consulting the Chinese. He called the Dawn story “half cooked” in a race to break the news first.

Pakistan inked new agreements worth nearly $500 million with China on Saturday ahead of Beijing’s international forum on its “Silk Road” trade and infrastructure initiative for Asia, Africa and Europe, the Pakistani government informed. ‘Dishonest Reporting’ by Dawn

An article published in the Dawn revealing what it claimed to be the “original plan of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC)” was based on the ‘obsolete’ and an outdated proposal from China Development Bank which dates back to 2015 and not the actual agreement between Pakistan and China, claimed Prime Minister’s Principal Secretary, Fawad Hassan Fawad.

The Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal on Monday also refuted the article and termed it ‘Dawn Leaks II’ that seeks to malign the CPEC.

Talking to Daily Pakistan in China at OBOR Summit 2017, Mr Ahsan Iqbal said that Dawn report was based on dishonesty. Addressing the allegations of opacity, he said, “Dawn’s story is based on an outdated proposal by China Development Bank while the actual agreement is a bilateral document which is yet to be signed, how can we make it public unilaterally without consulting our partner before it is even signed? We will definitely make it public but first it needs to be signed both by Pakistan and China. The document that Dawn claims is current is actually one and a half year old based on reports by China Development Bank – not the actual agreement, there have been so many changes since then.”

“I am appalled by Dawn Leak II. CPEC long-term plan story based on working documents to distort final draft taken up with NDRC yesterday in Beijing,” the planning minister said.

He further mentioned that the long-term plan could not have been disclosed by Pakistani government without consulting the Chinese. He called the Dawn story “half cooked” in a race to break the news first.

This 2015 "study"(not agreement) was done by Bank of China to prepare Chinese and what they should expect once in Pakistan in terms of , local people, politics, terrorism etc. Master plan or actual agreement which is supposed to be signed today in China isn't yet released.

It was Confidential .... and this doc should not have been leaked by anyone in the government. It is the incompetence of PMLN Gov to let this and earlier leak happen.

And Dawn doesn't publish things that damage NS. This is sinister just like the first leak was.
