Some 200,000 members of Pakistan’s minority Ahmadi community will boycott next month’s election in protest at their treatment by the authorities, a spokesman said Monday.

“We have been boycotting the election process since 1985 when Ahmadi voters were put in the list of religious minorities,” Saleemuddin, a spokesman for Jamaat-e-Ahmadiya told AFP.

He said the community wanted its voters to be included in the joint electorate system.

“We will stay away from the election and boycott it like in the past to register our protest,” he said.

Pakistan goes to the polls on May 11 for a general election that should see the first democratic transition from one civilian government to another after the completion of a five-year mandate.

Election registration forms require voters to give their religion and address and Ahmadis refuse to complete them for fear of being attacked. Their graveyards are often targeted and in 2010 nearly 100 people were killed in Lahore after militants stormed two Ahmadi prayer haLLS

. . .
Not taking part in the elections is a mistake.
Plus, Pakistan needs all it's citizens to vote. Regardless of religious beliefs.

Think Pakistan before personal views.

sorrowfully they don't.....whom to blame??we ourselves are responsible for all this mess:hitwall:

. . .
Although this is a wrong decision and all parties are at fault, but they are indeed a religious minority...no two ways about it.

.
What mess?
They have been given a legal identity for their newly invented faith. It cant get any better.

Exactly, and they are not ready to accept it...by mess i was referring qadiyanis for acting like a drama queen..

Qadianis should accept they are not muslim, why they always try to distort islam

to inject their false beliefs,to create misunderstanding among fiqs...liers

Ahmadis are only reducing their own value to lawmakers by consistently boycotting elections. The acts of hatred against them will go largely unnoticed until they raise their own worth to the greedy politicians who go asking for votes.

By thinking along religious lines, they are subjecting themselves to the minority mentality of self-vicimization.

Go out and vote !! Make a difference for Pakistan. If Pakistan doesn't prosper, we all lose.

Well said - They should use their vote power to raise their concerns. For our politicians people who don't cast vote doesn't exist.

How can you even ask these questions? What have you always taught the people of Pakistan.

You have always taught the people of Pakistan- Religion first.

Go out and vote !! Make a difference for Pakistan. If Pakistan doesn't prosper, we all lose.

Think about it from their point of view.

They are already losing. What difference does it make to them now whether the rest also start losing or not.

.
I am not much of a political commentator, but their best bet is ImranKhan.....they have a golden opportunity here and they shouldnt let it go in waste....whether minority or not they are still Pakistanis and therefore should cast their valueable votes to steer the country in the right direction.

It's not what we taught, it's what we were taught by the brotherly nations.
Pakistanis are changing now and realizing the mistake we made in adopting foreign influences which clearly contradicted our way of life.

And their PoV seems a bit misguided to me. They are losing because they refuse to accept that change comes about through integration, not by isolating oneself. Getting out and about, voting and voicing their issues will yield better results in the long run.

On Ahmadis: Even the educated and rational minds agree that by not accepting core Islamic principles, Ahmadis have taken an exit from Islam. There has been no debate in Muslim society about this.
