New Delhi: Indian Navy has diverted three ships to help tsunami-hit Indonesia for humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR) operation. Last week, a high-intensity tsunami, triggered by a massive earthquake, has so far killed 844 and displaced 59,000 people, causing widespread destruction.
According to Indian Navy's official Twitter handle, the Navy has diverted INS Tir, Sujata and Shardul to Indonesia. The ships were on deployment to Singapore and are being diverted to Palu. "Consequent to an earthquake measuring 7.5 on the Richter scale in the Minahassa Peninsula, Sulawesi, a Tsunami hit the Indonesian Island, causing widespread destruction to property and loss of life on the island," Navy spokesperson said in a statement released on Twitter.
