After lifetime with the poor, Mother Teresa speeds to sainthood

Christianity in its essence is a middle eastern religion...but unlike the other two middle eastern religions where the case was "those who made it spread it" Christianity was adopted by Europeans and then spread around the world.

Well the Turks and Persians played a big role in expanding Islam as well....they certainly were not the makers of Islam.

They are all middle-eastern....compared to differences between Jewish Jesus and Roman Constantine....Arabs Turks and Persians are practically brothers.

The principal of my high school is also being considered for beatification...if it goes through we will have our own saint.

There is so much hate in this thread for Mother Teresa. And I once donated all my pocket money to the missionary.:(
I also did when I was in school. They were on a world tour kind of thing and our school organized an outreach program.

That money was probably 'well' utilized by them. To print copies of pocket Bible and give them to dying Hindu and Muslim patients.

We were onced asked by school to attend MoC session in our school. After the session (which we all spent half-awake, we were like 10 year old back then), we were given 2 handbooks (liiustrated picture books with very good quality print and paper) on life and stories of jesus.

I don't understand what charity they performed, or rather tried to perform over young, unmoulded minds of 10 year olds.
Same story. We were all given a cute small blue bound pocket New Testament. In a Hindu missionary school.

Suffice to say - Hindus in general (take that PC) are idiots.

We are never short of gods, and any new addition to the list is welcome. More the gods, better the chances our prayers are heard. On one hand it does make us the most secular and most open religion, on the other hand, it makes us weak

Its not the addition of gods that makes us weak, its our inability to apply our mind that makes us suckers.

In an earlier age when the Media was controlled by vested interests, ignorance was a valid excuse. Today in the age of the internet, ignorance can no longer be an excuse.

Poverty p0rn gives us "saint" Theresa, "city of joy" and "slumdog Millionaire" and while Indians pay money to watch all these spectacles , the world laughs at us.

We pay the price of her "sainthood" with our pride and dignity and the countless deaths in Calcutta on which she built her empire. All the while we cheer while the world jeers. Ignorant forever.

Religions thrive on plight, fear and sufferings (though some rely on caliphates too:D). If there are no sufferings, if everyone is happy and content, religion will die.

Not all religion.

Hinduism flourished when India had one of the highest GDP in the world. Buddhism flourished in prosperous India and so did Jainism.

But certain religion does thrive on human suffering. Especially those who have a replica of a torture device as their holy symbol. (cross). They first cause it and then create 'saints' who pretend to remove it.

Jainism flourished when Chandragupta maurya became a jain, buddhism flourished when Ashoka endorsed it. Hinduism also spread when the powerful kings were hindus. All over history, read about spread of any religion, when king adopted a religion, the "praja" also did the same. One can speculate the reason for it, i believe fear was the prime reason.

Jainism's highest watermark was not during reign of Changdragupta Maurya, but during middle ages and is cognate with rise of Indo-Roman trade. If never depended on Kings, but was a religion favored by merchants.

Buddhism is even more removed from Ashoka. The highest subscriber of Buddhism were during Kanishka's and Kushan reign. It too was a religion preferred by merchants. It started decline in middle of first century CE.

When you say that "praja" adopts King's religion ,you are absolutely wrong. This view is an example of hold of western constructs over us. In west where King's power were unbounded, and he acted as leader of a large tribe, this people following their sovereign was common. In India, where King was bound by religious and caste laws, and where kingship was considered as a caste duty by general population, King had no hold over spirituality of people. There are no instances of mass conversion ,due to kings converting, in Indian history, like there are in danish history.

Actually my school was run by the Roman Catholic Diocesan Education Society(R.C.D.E.S). So you know where the affiliation came from.:D

That is a piece of falsified history created by the British.

If "Fear" and "kings" is the primary reason for people changing religion then ALL of India should have been either Muslim or Christian

The Portuguese tortured Hindus for 250 years in Goa and dominated them for 500 years, and still Goa is only 25% christian.

Jain Munis existed thousands of years before Chandragupta Maurya.

Hinduism and buddhism spread in India due to the teaching of Dharma. In Any case the whole spin of "buddha" staring a new religion is again a british invention. Buddha was a Hindu Rishi or as we call in the new age, a "baba". He belonged to the Nirvana Akhada.

Since Adi Shankracharya lived for 32 years, that puts his birth at 447 + 32 = 509 BC.

Now if this was when the Shankracharya lived, How can they claim buddha lived in 563 BC or 480 BC ? But the british do claim that.

The entire historical dates are hogwash and all the associated history is all pieced together with one lie on top of another to spin a fantastic fantasy that is fed to the public.

She took money from the Duvalier family and Charles Keating(both of whom actually stole their money from other poor people) in the name of helping the poor and set up brother houses and nunneries. She and her organization still refuse to disclose their finances and there are pretty good reasons to suspect that they have huge sums deposited in the Vatican Bank....over the years they have accumulated enough money to build world class hospitals...but all they provide are hospices....and even there they actively try to baptize dying people rather then providing them with proper health care...she swindled people out of money in the name of charity and spent them on missionary work...it can also be argued that she had some form of psychosis( based on her statements about finding Christ in the suffering of people...and somehow the world was being 'helped' by the suffering of poor people...only godford almighty knows what she meant)....Anup Chatarjee,Tariq Ali,Christopher Hitchens(peace be on him) all did extensive study on her and came to very similar conclusions....University of Ottawa also did a study on here and concluded the entire thing surrounding her was media campaign by the Catholic Church(recently exposed as one of the most notorious criminal organizations in the world protecting pedophile rapists).

I'm quite sure they have (or at least had) millions in Vatican banks. Special collections were done in all Cathoilic churches in the US (and I assume worldwide) at least once a year for her charity. I'm sure it raised crazy sums each year. So whatever amount you think they sucked in from Indian citizens is just the tip of the iceberg.

I'm sure I have given at least $500 in my youth before I walked away.

So much hatred for mother. I live in the same area where she carried out her work.
Never seen her distribution bibles or preaching Christianity.

All I have seen is her devotion for the poor, caring them, nurturing them. Priests in Kalighat temple used to tell her janto kali (means live Godess Kali)

There are cases where people converted to Christianity with help of MOC . It happened mostly for some AAM people who was guaranteed of a better life, good education or working in Western countries, mainly Italy. Everybody desires living a respected life than living a life of poverty.

Please note it was not the MOC, but the people from the churches used to convert the poverty sicken people guaranteeing for a better life.

The hate is not for a person who did charity, but for the institution she created that perpetuated that poverty, marketed that poverty and celebrated that poverty to build an empire.

India has the largest number of NGO's per capita in the world all out to do the business of charity.

My friends mother was a nurse in a bombay hospital when mother theresa had visited there. She was pretty excited to meet theresa and when the opportunity came to meet her, Mother therasa asked her why she was not covered fully. And when she replied that she was not a christian she was abruptly asked to leave the room :cheesy: (she was a parsi married to a muslim) This is just ONE example. (just comparing one anecdotal story with another)

That was the last time she admired Mother Therasa or her MOC.

Its amazing that while you admit that MOC helped convert with the lure of a better life, you struggle to distance MOC from it. By that same logic pakistan has nothing to do with Terrorism since they only "help" terrorists.

That she would participate in and allow something so despicable as exploiting poverty for conversion speaks about her character.

Maybe the next time you can thank the british for building the Railways. The Local priest called the British "janto Maalik". Cheers for that.
