I happen to speak both. Urdu was mostly self-learning, and Punjabi I studied a little as a kid in Indian Punjab (Gurumukhi script). We had some stories of Bulleh Shah in the coursebook.

Of course right now I only think in English. My command on the native languages of India (or Pakistan) have become rusty in the last 15 odd years.

Interesting what you said about english, I've noticed every time that I have visited pakistan more and more people make a effort to learn English to the point I think eventually people will stop speaking urdu altogether. That's why it more imperative now than ever before to make all native languages compulsory in order to preserve culture and tradition. Other wise in the future only english will be spoken.
Don't get me wrong english is a very important language if you learn it a entire world opens up to you but not at the expense of native languages.

Buddy ethnic pride and nationalism are very related to each other. One should not consume the other. Too much ethnic pride means RACISM against non-ethnics which is never good. Too much nationalism means a country will end up like Nazi Germany or Imperial era Japan. So a balance is always needed.

In India, no politician will dare to impose Hindi language on the southern states. Or any other regional states for that. In European countries, even minor languages such as Catalan in Spain, Occitan, Breton, and Corsican in France, have protected status. All students not only learn in their respective regions but anyone from mainland migrating to that region has to also learn to assimilate. Even an English Canada has a strong Quebec French identity.

But it seems Pakistan is following a ONE language policy similar to United States or Australia. These are modern nations so it suits them. Pakistan region is home to many ancient communities, and the policy should be to promote diversity. Not eliminate it.

Look how long some Afghan refugees have lived in pakistan even born here and all they do is spew venom against us. Unfortunately the world hasn't seen other Pakistani ethnicities as majority of migrants are from Punjab and Azad Kashmir, Mirpur.

For example, the "Afghans" being referred to in this thread are Pashtun nationalists and budding Marxists who have harmed Afghanistan more than Pakistan in pursuit of their irredentist goals. These same people—Pashtun nationalists and Marxists—have committed horrible instances of cultural vandalism against ethnic and religious minorities in Afghanistan. And to what end? An unoriginal ethno-nationalist ideology that borrows heavily from Nazi/Hitler's Aryanism while edifying the glories of Islamic conquests. This is so clichéd that you can replace Pashtun nationalists with Hindu nationalists, Serb nationalists, or White nationalists, and not much will change other than the latter relies on Christian/Hindu conquests. They all promote racial purity while killing and plundering anyone who is different. The net result is mass destruction, intellectual regression and cultural/moral decay.

I'm opposed to spreading any form of bigoted cancer in Pakistan.

Pakistan/Pakistanis should pursue higher ideals for our own well being.

In the UK, they mostly pass as British Pakistanis or British Asians, or even "Balti." I guess many are from Kashmir region.

Read the title of the thread it's about afgha s not baloch you have inserted yourself in this conversation. As far as what has a is going on in balochistan that is not the premise of this thread, now if you opened one up I would be happy to contribute. Punjabis were target killed in balochistan but we didn't target kill baloch living in punjab did we.
I will off by saying that my childhood best friend his baloch heritage never thought of her as not my equal no punjabi thinks like that.

Balti from chicken balti I'm guessing. Balti is a Mongoloid ethnicity we have up in the north, similar to your Ladakhis. Their language is Sino Tibetan too I think.

I am not here for racial superiority, nor do I believe in superiority as result goes to the hard working, not colour.

You can be the biggest ethnic group we are happy for you and we have no issues with that.
