What has india carried to Afghanistan through Chabhar? And if Chabhar is the answer and alternative to access through Pakistan then why india is crying river for Pakistani transit so much so india even try to ride on uncle shoulder for Pakistani transit.

Perhaps ex indian diplomat M K Bhadrakumar who served in central asian region, put out of place indian big talk in prospective

"As things stand, the only viable logistical link we can establish with Afghanistan is through outer space. Maybe, NASA Headquarters in Washington could help the Satish Dhawan Space Centre at Sriharikota? Yet, South Block seems cocksure it’s on the ‘right side of history’. "

Indian Punchline - Reflections on foreign affairs

This is no big talks, but obvious economics, It's true that there is no answer to direct land transit from Pakistan & no one is denying that, India has built the chabhar port in Iran as an alternative but the distance speaks for themselves:

Distance b/w Kabul & chabhar - around 1500km (travelling only through Afghanistan & Iran), than sea distance b/w chabhar & Gujarat is again some 700-800 kms so trading only by Chabhar will result in some 2200 kms of transport distance. While a direct land distance b/w Kabul & Amritsar is just 800kms, so obviously a transit through Pakistan makes complete sense.

But given the Pakistan's animosity towards India there is no way we will get the transit on easy terms & will have to play a hard ball for it, till than chabhar is the best bet for India as it offers no restrictions on any sort of trade with Afghanistan as both India & Iran have common interests in Afghanistan & wants a more stable Afghanistan.

Karzai's A** is definitely Grass as soon as NATO departs. It is time for Pakistan to stop all transit of Indian goods through Pakistan.

If you indeed had that authority, you'd have first stopped drone strikes. Not transit of goods that are non-military.

But if you want you can do so.

We cooperated with Iran on Chahbahar port for the exact same reason; to bypass you.

Iranians get millions in transit revenues while Afghans benefit from our trade. Two friends benefit from one single approach.

In fact, it is pathetic why this a$$-cleaning Congress government is so obsessed with transiting our goods through your land. A pragmatic government would have simply requested Iran for the deal.

What India carried though Chabhar is very much visible though out Afghanistan, specially Pakistan border area. Last time we heard that it was you crying river after India got full access in Afghanistan, though you are nothing!!! Anyway, we ride on Uncle's should and forced to sign transit deal. Isn't that an achievement?

.
we have the transit to afghan through iran in place . we talk about pakistan transit (ahem can pakistan assure it's own populace some protection in their transit area to afghanistan, i guess not , and so that transit is useless for us ).

yes pakistan can burn afghanistan again to prevent indian dominance , but should remember their roof will catch fire too (still is). somebody said "YOU LIVE BY THE SWORD , YOU DIE BY THE SWORD".

what will happen when India has threats from more than three sides... China, Pakistan and Iran... Mr. pakistan don't have any tension of afghanistan... Afghan Talibans will be enough for Afghan government. but pakistan and China will see india in proper way...

Nice one shering :D

But what will they do if there is a real danger of a two front war, i mean drones & some shots are already been exchanged??? And they threaten us with a two front war concept

India is being heavily armed to effect that such childish incursions can only remain a childish fantasy!
grow up!

China and Iran have major trade and economic ties to only, only in Pakistan kiddo fantasy are these two nations going to war with India..as a matter of fact the rapidly re-shaping Asia will see very limited role for Pakistan if we do not fix our act.

And apparently Mano-Salwa would hail from the sky in platters made of gold and served by virgin houris to feed the righteous and pure Pakistanis.

It amazes for a fact that you are easily discarding a lucrative opportunity of job creation for thousands of Pakistanis with blind faith of neighbor animosity which has done us no good in last 65 years as a matter of fact we end up losing half of the country with their neighbor animosity mindset.

Does anyone ever think for a moment that our ever rising population needs ever rising means of employment too?

Afgans share a more pleasant relationship with India than their neighbour. Now if its hard to digest for some people then so be it.

I mean the real afgans not the talibans. They are a friend to none.

The Hindu : News / International : Taliban praises India for resisting U.S. pressure on Afghanistan

In an unusual comment, the Afghan Taliban has praised India as a “significant country” in the region. It said New Delhi has done well to resist the U.S. calls for greater military involvement in Afghanistan.

“No doubt that India is a significant country in the region... They are aware of the Afghans' aspirations, creeds and love for freedom. It is totally illogical they should plunge their nation into a calamity just for the American pleasure,” the Taliban said in a statement.

The group, accused of repeatedly targeting Indian interests in Afghanistan and believed to be close to Pakistani spy agency ISI, praised India for what it called sending U.S. Defence Secretary Leon Panetta “empty handed towards Kabul.”

The Taliban said Mr. Panetta, in his recent visit to India, encouraged New Delhi to take a more active role in Afghanistan as most foreign combat troops leave the country in 2014 but failed to “gain any success or progress in his efforts.”

Mr. Panetta “spent three days in India to transfer the heavy burden to their shoulders, to find an exit and to flee from Afghanistan,” said the Taliban.

The militant group has been fighting a bloody war with the US-led NATO forces since its ouster from power in 2001. “Some reliable media sources said that the Indian authorities did not pay heed to the U.S. demands and showed their reservations, because the Indians know or they should know that the Americans are grinding their own axe,” it said.

“Indian people and their authorities are observing this illicit war for the last 12 years and they are aware of the Afghan nation and their demands,” the statement said.

During the Afghan civil war, India extended its support to the Northern Alliance against Taliban but was pushed out of Afghanistan after the militant group took over in 1996.

The Taliban linked militant groups, especially the dreaded Haqqani Network, have been repeatedly attacking Indian interests. In one such attack, 58 people were killed and 141 wounded when the Indian Embassy in Kabul was bombed in 2008.

In the statement, the Taliban said it wanted to have cordial relations with India on the basis of sovereignty, equality, mutual respect and non-interference in each other's internal affairs.

It said the solution to the Afghan issue lay in the withdrawal of the external forces. India is one of the biggest donors to Afghanistan, spending about $2 billion on civilian projects ranging from the construction of highways to the building of Afghan parliament.

Though India extends assistance to Afghanistan in civilian areas, it has avoided involvement in bolstering Afghan security, except for running training programmes for small groups of Afghan army officers in India.

Such a good news after long time:D..When are the 4 million Afghan refugees leaving for india??We would be more than happy to drop them at wagha border.:D
Really?? You'll need a fleet of 300,000 trucks to bring them! Even if you pool all the trucks in Pakistan including the PA's transport, you'll take till doomsday to do that and cost you the earth in terms of diesel and supplies! And don't forget a daily requirement of 20 million litres of water for them during their journey!! How many water bowsers would be required for that? 4000 at least - daily! :woot:

Now let's talk of the crap of 4 million refugees traveling toward the Indian border. How many tons of it would be disposed along the wayside from the AfPak region to Wagha? Now that's gonna create some real stink along Pakistan's highways!! Sheeesh!

And coming down to chappatis and dal, you'll need to make 16 million chappatis at least, including one million kg of dal or one thousand tonnes every single day of the journey!!! One thousand tonnes means 100 ten-ton trucks transporting the stuff to those hungry Afghans!!

Anyway, let's take an average of 300,000 trucks transporting those poor refugees. That means a road space requirement of 1800 km bumper to bumper!!! :woot:

Ok, so they'll not be transported on a single day. But you get the point I guess! :P
