NIMROZ: As the first shipment of wheat arrived in Nimroz via Iran’s Chabahar Port on Saturday, the Afghan officials said their country was no longer dependent on Pakistan’s Karachi port.

The shipment arrived in Nimroz province in Afghanistan’s west, Tolo News reported.

Senior government officials and the Indian ambassador to Kabul, Manpreet Vohra, attended a ceremony to inaugurate the new trade route – which according to officials, will help Afghanistan overcome its dependence on other trade routes, including Pakistan.

“With the opening of Chabahar Port, Afghanistan will no longer be dependent on Karachi Port,” Nimroz Governor Mohammad Samiullah said.

“This port will create thousands of jobs and bring billions of dollars in revenue to Afghanistan, Iran and India.”

He said the residents of Nimroz are determined to ensure the Nimroz-Delaram roads are secure. This route leads directly to Chabahar Port in Iran.

At the same event, Nasir Ahmad Durani, acting minister of agriculture, said the cooperation between Afghanistan, India and Iran in the Chabahar region is a great opportunity to boost trade ties between the three countries.

Meanwhile, Indian Ambassador Manpreet Vohra said that Chabahar Port provides easy and short connectivity between countries in the region.

He said the shipment is part of the 1.1 million wheat pledged by India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Afghanistan – during his visit to Kabul.

According to him, 700,000 tons of the wheat has so far arrived in Afghanistan.

He said the reason for cooperation between India and Iran to help Afghanistan is to find an alternate route for trade between the three countries.

The Indian envoy said Chabahar Port’s route will not be closed at random – which is a problem Afghanistan faces in working through some countries in the region.

Vohra says Saturday’s shipment is part of the wheat promised by India to Afghanistan.

Dozens of Nimroz residents attended the inauguration of the Chabahar Port route and performed traditional dances.

Mr. Nimroz can stop eating all the bread & butter provided by NATO/US & others via Karachi. Also, ask NATO to divert all the aid and transship through Iran instead of Karachi. Talk is easy and to please the master, it was necessary to quote Pakistan in this regard. People like Nimroz are anti progress of Afghanistan. Not being a tout in first place, should have told that now Afghanistan can use two ways but ironically, would have killed his ego as well as monthly salary and other luxuries.

a good step, now Afghans can become Iran's pain.

during my visit to Pakistan few months back, I notices immigration officers both at Karachi and Islo airport giving hard times to Afghani national, one immigration officer when done with an Afghan in front me said to me "BC apney baap ka mulk samjh ke atey hain"

Mostly terrorism in Pakistan is due to it's 2 neighbors, India and Afghanistan. The less Pakistan have interdependence on them the better for Pakistan.

Very happy to see that they are transporting goods via chahbahar. I hope they completely stop using Pakistani soil and also help Pakistan barricade Pak Afghan border. During last 15 years Pakistan has lost almost 123Billion US $, tens of thousands civilians and thousands of security personals, due to terrorism emanating from Afghanistan most of which is supported by india.

Good for Afghanistan...after what they gone through since decades...welcome sign...breath of freedom!!

Even though this is sort of good for Pakistan in a way that Afghanistan is getting more independent. Pakistan now to suffer lesser from their terrorism .

But still we need people in Afghanistan, to counter Indian influence . Because what happening in Afghanistan is recipe for disaster, which will definitely effect Pakistan even after our border is fenced & mined. US & Indians are busy making sure that mess in Afghanistan is not resolved anytime soon, it is simply against their interests.

Great news. Now seal the torkhum and chaman crossing and ask NATO to ship their stuff via chabahar too.

No one should have any issues with this arrangement. By and large everyone is happy. A great time and opportunity for Pakistan to disengage from WOT.

They get a delivery and that's a breath of freedom. Lol
For an Afghan..it is indeed!!
A country invaded by foreigners, exploited by neighbors for long...yes it is a breath of fresh air of freedom!!!

Great news. Now seal the torkhum and chaman crossing and ask NATO to ship their stuff via chabahar too.

Why would Afghanistan do that...if Pakistan has a problem they can always say 'no'!
