As a Pakistani Pashtun I honestly wish best of luck to afghans for developing their own country . You guys come to peshawer for health , jobs and live and then say bad things about us. Afghan patients come in thousands to peshawer and get treated as locals.
Thanks for your kind wishes, nothing will make me happier than seeing my Pashtun bros in Pakistan prosper.
Just to clarify, we are eternally thankful the the people of Pakistan and the government for their hospitality. Having said that it does not mean we can't express our opinion freely, be it pro or anti Pakistani. Just like Pakistanis have the right take American aid and then voice their opinion against the drone attacks. Does it make Pakistanis bad or namak haram to protest against drone attacks while taking American aid? Can American do whatever it pleases against Pakistan because they gave aid or there are Pakistanis working in USA? Do you see my logic?
There is proverb in Pashto "kha weka aw pe seend ke wachawa", meaning, when you do good expect nothing in return. Do it for the sake of Allah (swt) and don't expect anything in return, otherwise you are only doing it so you can ask for a favour later. Ofcourse it is human nature to expect something in return as we all do, only God gives without expecting anything in return. We do "gila", as "gila" is only done from those you consider your own and not outsiders. Majority Afghans don't hate Pakistanis or Pakistan. Some might hate Pakistani government or your elites specifically the ISI, because they see Pakistani government's interference in our internal affairs and supporting proxy groups as the reason for the instability in our country. Whether this stance is justified or not is another matter.
Another group which might hate Pakistan is some Pashtun Afghan nationalists who hate the fact that Pashtuns are not unified in one country under one banner. They see the creation of Pakistan as a colonial design to weaken the Pashtun nation because the Pashtuns fought three wars against the British (Anglo-Afghan war) and did not submit to the British Empire. They see the Durand Line as a revenge by the British for their resistance against the Brits and its a slap in their face. They did the same with the FATA tribes who the Brits laballed as Barbarians and put FCR law on them. Now you might say that it was the Emir of Afghanistan who signed the Durand Treaty, well that's correct but Did the Emir hold a Jirga and ask for the opinion of Pashtuns of Afghanistan and Pakistan at the time? The answer is No. As a Pashtun you should know that any decision of this scale without a Jirga is not acceptable in Pashtun society. The Emir did what he thought was in his best interests at the time. The Pashtuns of Pakistan were not sold to the British, they are not a commodity which can be bought and sold. Pashtuns are fiercely independent and I am sure most people never even heard of Durand Line till much later on because Pashtuns are mostly rural and don't accept central authority.
Some of these Pashtun Afghan nationalists are sincere in their intentions and some of them just use the Durand Line and anti Pakistan rhetoric for their personal interests like ANP walas.
Some hate and blame Pakistan because it is an easy way out. They rather blame the bogeyman Pakistan then look at their own problems. The same can be said about many people in pakistan who always blame India or the Jews for their troubles. This victim mentality unfortunately exists in our region as a whole. Others might hate pakistan for a number of reasons such as some Tajiks who resent pakistani support for Taliban whom they see as Pashtun nationalists. The list goes on and on.
As to implementing the will of people KPK is now the second most developed province in Pakistan after punjab thanks to a great 3 years by PTI led government. Compare that to any of your neighbouring pashtun province and you will get your answer why despite having the same ethnicity you guys are so backward. Tribal mentality , prone to violence , not willing to change ,false ghairat in the so called 5000 year old history , corrupt to the core ,jailing women for loving man , bacha bazi and what not. Pashtuns on our side voted for the right people and are now reaping the rewards. And whom do you guys voted? Warlords and people that participated in destroying kabul . I personally met alot of afghan pashtuns and they resent us when they see all the development in KPK for pashtuns and then think about their own place. Nobody else is to blame but yourself.
The things you mention about social ills which exist in Afghanistan are indeed tragic and hopefully things will change with peace and the course of time. These problems are not unique to Afghanistan but our region as a whole. They might be more exaggerated in Afghanistan because of continuous wars which has taken a toll on people. I have been all over KPK and Balochistan and have first hand experience of what takes place there. There are some problems which are unique to Pashtuns but many are not, you will see the same or similar things happen all over Pakistan or the wider region.
Well, i am glad you guys are happy with your government and the work PTI has done, more power to you. I don't know what kind of Pashtuns you have met so I can't speak for you but you can find good and bad people everywhere. Personally I have met and worked with plenty of Pashtuns from KPK and we are the closest people to each other and want the best for each other.
