Featured Afghanistan Peace Process

US is not going out of Afghanistan. I have been saying it for a long time here. They want to stay here permanently or have permanent bases in Afghanistan. Afghanistan is too strategically important for the US to be left alone.

This peace agreement is nothing but a hogwash. An illusion. Trump has to sell his voters that he is bringing his troops back from Afghanistan in his campaign.

US thought that they could fool Taliban. US made agreement with Taliban that 5000 Taliban prisoners will be released within 1 week of the peace deal and then US made a joint declaration with Afghan government saying that US will facilitate talks between Afghan government and Taliban for prisoners release.

Here is that exact quote of US Afghan government Joint Declaration:
"To create the conditions for reaching a political settlement and achieving a permanent, sustainable ceasefire, the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan will participate in a U.S.-facilitated discussion with Taliban representatives on confidence building measures, to include determining the feasibility of releasing significant numbers of prisoners on both sides".

Taliban on the other hand got what they wanted. More legitimacy.

This war will continue in Afghanistan for at least another decade imo. The only way for peace in Afghanistan will be if US is kicked out of Afghanistan. But no one in the entire region wants to increase the cost of occupation of US in Afghanistan. Hence US is comfortable in Afghanistan. Their $19 trillion economy can easily sustain burning of $60 billion a year which for them is nothing more than mere peanuts.

What good is strategic importance if you are dependent on someone else for access to that area??? Someone whose objectives are different then yours regarding that area.

USA wants out. Even 60 billion is too much when that's money that be used to with build bordor walls or cut taxes for rich Americans.

They have a new enemy now that is China. IMO US will now cut its operations overseas, and use that money at things which will help them counter China.

"Strategy without patience can be caustic. Patience Without strategy can become anemic.Having both strategy and patience is a rare gift"

Brother mine,

I, also, have said it from the start that it is Deal and NOT a PeaceDeal ...that is for media consumptions!

The way I see it it is anohter Chapter of The Game of Chicken... where the US is now offering the Rules of the Game which, it appears, AFT/IEA have agreed to. @StormBreaker

The hint of long term and positive relations with the US if the Yanks offer reconstruction is a massive give away...

Nobody is going to leave the Prime RealEstate in the Heart of Asia fused with The Heartland Pakistan!

My sense is that Pakistan has also agreed to the Rules of The Game of Chicken...

The US cares a dead donkey if it can stay in Kabulistan be it AFT/IEA or IndiaPhrand Ghani...

Now regarding the $60Bln...yes it is as easy as punching the keys on the computer... so money is not the issue.

The US can even bring it down to half.. $10Bln for AFT ..about the same for Pakistan and the rest to keep itsself attached cosy in its mega bases...

We might see the emergence of an interim setup in Kabul...perhaps after AFT/IEA visits the OvalOffice and becomes BFF with the US...smiles all around!

Remember those days when Talibs where in Texas... TAPI still not dead..and why not!!!

In a way it might just be a win-win which can help us breath as well..if we can integerate CAREC with CPEC...but here in lies the PowerStruggle for GlobalDominace...

And then BatteriesWar is about to start too...

IndiaPhrand Ghani is deadman walking!

Mangus
You see, there is always a chance for AFT to just divide Afghanistan country into smaller two countries with them controlling the north eastern part, but that doesn’t serve their goals...
