Found a released CIA document that claims that the Afghan ambassador back in '54 proposed an Afghan-Pak merger, and that the then PM Muhammad Ali Bogra was suspicious of this plan.

I never knew this, does anyone here has any information that can shed more light on this?

Mohammad Ali was rightly suspicious, you cannot control Afghan barbarians no matter what. they would cause civil war in Pakistan on ethnic basis within few years, they hate Punjabis as if Punjabis have ruled their kind for centuries and not persianized Turks.

afgan pakistan merger was a very heated debate in the 50s later joined by Iran as well but it was scrapped mostly by Pakistan ........ it was re ignited after fall of societ union with central asian stans but was scrapped because of Afghanistan......... shuold have happened though

It was idea of Aslam Khattak who was then Ambassador to Afghanistan. Aslam Khattak was part of Chauhdri Rahmat Ali's team in creating the pamphlet "Now or Never" .Before him, the idea of merger with Afghanistan (as well Iran) was also proposed by his colleague Chauhdry Rahmat Ali .
