Afghanistan: Informal Colony of India

TBH Pakistan splitting was on the cards i think . No country can survive while being 2500 km apart with an enemy in between . So we had it coming . ISI has been vilified alot hence has acquired somewhat of a mythical status within Spy agencies . Terms like ' a state within a state '' doesn't help either . RAW's success has been to cut itself off from Mainstream, not many people know about it .

ISI is like Jaguar F-Type with lots of exhaust note and brutality while RAW is more akin to a sedan . Both will get things done but in a different way .

Yes that is true -- Pakistan and Bangladesh were more or less untenable as one entity

Do you have any idea the kind of Shit ISI has been involved in for over 70 years? There are going to be mistakes on the way for every success .

ISI (like Pakistani General staff) confuses tactical gymnastics with strategic wins (partly because of Pakistanis size -- smaller countries have a tendency to think tactically) -- case in point Israel. Israel was not able to leverage her tactical wins into lasting strategic advantage. For Israel it was its advances in tech, industry and commerce that bought it lasting strategic security.

RAW (like the Indian General staff) has a better strategic sense

For example the CIA has many tactical wins -- but strategically have they been effective for the US -- I'd say the jury is out. For short term tactical wins -- we generate a lot of hate in the world for ourselves.

some of the successes and failures will never be publicised

ISI has a budget of $500 million
what you can do with a limited budget and limited technical means is constrained

ISI has too many missions for a limited budget - internal politics in Afghanistan, Afghanistan, Kashmir and India

What you ascribe as better strategic sense to the RAW is function of Indian bureaucracy

It has been involved in toppling governments , murders , proxy wars , bombings , drug smuggling and almost everything that can bring you infamy . Have you seen the documentary '' Secret Pakistan '' by BBC? Nice insight into ISI how it double crosses the world and controls Afghanistan . Ex Raw chief said it is the most powerful spy agency in the world . I would take that as a compliment since we also have CIA and Mossad .

It even rigged the 1991 Bangladesh elections and formed a government of its own choice there . :D

http://bdnews24.com/politics/2012/03/16/ex-isi-boss-admits-funding-bnp

Pakistan's spy agency Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) has admitted that it had funded the BNP during the 1991 general elections which the party won and formed government.

The confession came from a man no less than former ISI chief Asad Durrani during a Pakistan Supreme Court hearing on the spy agency's mandate on Wednesday, according to London-based Daily Mail.

He also confessed to supporting insurgency in India's northeast.

Prime minister Sheikh Hasina on Mar 10 accused BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia of taking money from ISI before the June 1996 and Oct 2001 parliamentary elections.

"It is beyond doubt that she (Khaleda) took money before 1996 national polls. The future will reveal more on... I think the amount was higher in 2001," the Awami League chief had said.

ISI runs drug cartels all over South asia and south east asia . It earns alot of black money from drug business and owning massage parlours as far as Thailand and Malaysia . Why do you think its sheltering Daud ?

ISI successes and failures are quite public due its notorious reputation around the world . It has successfully done operations in Places like France , Bosnia , Libya and iran apart from the usual suspects .

Actually no Pakistani bureaucracy is more efficient and agile than India bureaucracy. The Indian bureaucracy has always been up for the Darwinian award.

the ISI/RAW reflection is probably best described to the different sizes of Pakistan/India

India faces no existential external threat -- except a Pakistani strategic nuclear strike; this coupled with its size can pursue a longer term view more naturally.

Pakistan is by contrast has more firefighting to do -- and thus unable to evolve a more longterm view.

Given all other things equal (which in reality are not).

If what you say is true ISI is stupid.

what is the point of interfering in Bangladesh ??
Bangladesh has to maintain a working relationship with India. I do not think the BNP led government will change relationship with Delhi on issues of substance

I do not believe the drug stories. running drug cartels will get you in trouble with governments around the world. Imagine Pakistani diplomats being kicked out by brotherly country like Malaysia or Indonesia. They don't give a rat *** about your nukes like Uncle Sam does

Darwin would be puzzled at the inflexibility of the Indian bureaucracy :-)

I will buy it - India has a long term view that Pakistan has been unable to form

A very good example of this is that Egypt was able to convert a major tactical loss in the 1973 war to Israel into a long term strategic victory.

Interestingly: Egypt's loss in the 1973 war is taught in the Pakistani staff college (I'm told) as a victory -- the only staff college of note to do so.

Egypt followed up with a peace accord with Israel. they had to cough up and accept Israel's existence. They got lost territory, economic aid from USA and better superpower patron (USA instead of Russia)

What would be the strategic end game in Bangladesh ?? They have to work with India on water sharing/flood control etc.. They are poor. They cannot alter policy to feed egos of armchair general/analyst in Islamabad. When a BNP regime beats up on Pakistan tomorrow it will be ultimate salt in the wounds

Pakistan wants a friendly BD so as to strengthen support for insurgency in north-east Indian states . I thought it's a well established fact ? That is why ISI has a good network in nepal too . As for Drugs ISI's involvement in Drug smuggling is quite well known .

ISI pumps in more than 7500 crore worth of drugs in Indian Punjab alone .

See my next post -- Bangladesh is not really citable -- India may claim victory for it -- but it was a civil war. Had it not been a civil war, India would have gotten a decent whipping ala 1965

Drug abuse in India is very low. I am not sure where the drugs are landing up
Using Bangladesh ISI has tried to support insurgents in NE India. It has not worked out well for the ISI. It is like India wanting to support Baluchi rebels. Without a land border it is worthless exercise to be involved

http://deaddictioncentres.in/news/indias-youth-drugs/

We have an addiction problem in India.

In Punjab the numbers are ridiculousnearly 75% of its youth are severely addicted to drugs, that's 3 out of every 4 children.

Mumbai, Hyderabad and other cities around the country are quickly gaining a reputation for their drug usage; and the population in each of these cities continues to grow.

http://scroll.in/article/812278/eve...rug-abuse-and-only-one-of-them-is-from-punjab

There are 10 suicides everyday in India related to Drug abuse .

Paid article, Illiterate author, who doesn't know NDS and Riyasat Amniyat Mili Afghanistan (RAMA) are the same thing but just for the sake of adding some spice for it's illiterate audience he even went to put figures out of his own arse.

Long live Afghan-Indian friendship!
