Afghan Presidential Candidate Abdul Latif Pedram Calls to Officially Accept Pak-Afghan Border

No nation is completely innocent and no nation is completely guilty. Those who think their nation has only done right and no wrong are nationalist, and InshAllah there will come a day when Nationalism will no longer be on the face of this earth.

Afghanistan has made mistakes, the past ruler followed a nationalist Pashtun policy instead of Islam, which was the conflict that was between Pakistan, and they later made it even worse with Communism. The past is the past, we should forgive each other for the wrongs done to one another and move forward, as there will come a time when there will be no Pakistan, Afghanistan, or any nation in this world and the only thing that will stand will be Islam.

The choice in the end is yours which path you want to follow, Islam or Nationalism...

Islam over nationalism for life! Muslim first and nationality comes second. I wish more Afghans are like you. Assalam Ualikum brother

Walikum As Salam. There are brothers, but they are often very religious. If you ever come across an Afghan, just ask them basic questions about Islam and talk about Islam in general, and if they know the answers or if they don't know and but are very excited to talk about it, chances are they have positive views about Pakistan and care more about Islam than nationalism.

why do we accept durand line as pak afghan border if afghans dont want to accept durand line as their border then its time for Pakistan to do the same and change the border with afghanistan by capturing wakhan corridor and some other strategically important areas .

True. No nation is innocent. But remember it was Afghanistan which was the aggressor against Pakistan. This is not to be forgotten.
I hope that the relationship can improve however it necessitates that Afghanistan accept the Durand - Khan border. And i dont think that enough Afghan Afghans et al will be able to swallow this. I hope i am wrong.

The Problem was and always will be Nationalism. I believe in loose confederations of Pakistan, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Kashmir and even the central Asian countries if possible. In time the borders shared by us will become meaningless.

I understand this thought sounds very terrifying to the average Afghan and Pakistani, however it needn't be so, we can be like a South Asian-Central Asian EU. Pakistan wouldn't have to worry about its western borders, the confederation can focus on developing one another and defend one another should the need arise, and the one thing that will unify us/keep us unified will be Islam.

The only obstacle to this dream/goal is attempting to make this happen through force or fraud, and the second is the Durand line, which should be accepted.

This was the dream of the spiritual founder of Pakistan Allama Iqbal. However I think this will remain a dream unfortunately.

Really, I did not know that! It's good someone already had this vision, I will look him up. Any books you'd recommend?

In Afghanistan and Iran Allama Iqbal is known as Iqbal Lahori!

Durand Line is a colonial legacy & should have been rendered meaningless with Pakistanis and Afghans travelling across the border without visas, much like the US-Canada border. Perhaps, recognition would have been more beneficial to Afghanistan then the rejection has. But Afghanistan's refusal to recognize Pakistan at the UN in 1947, its alliances with India in various forms over the years, efforts to entice Pashtoon separatist nationalism (which has largely failed), and its inability to contain cross-border militancy (in many case they entice cross border militancy) has instead hardened the border. Needless to say this has gone against Afghanistan's own interests and things get worse as the time passes by.

I do not see the current realities of the hardened border changing anytime soon, whether Afghanistan accepts or rejects Durand Line. But in the case of acceptance it might see Pakistan opt for more softened policies towards the country, so long India does not impinge on the relations. We should also not be interfering in Afghanistan's internal matter, so long they do not impinge on our national security and internal matters.
