Tawde Khabare is a popular talk show on Tolo News, arguable the most influential media group in Afghanistan.

In addition to Pakistan -- pretty bad bashing of the USA by even members of Parliament.

Over and over again: "Agar Amerika Mokhlis-ast" (if American is sincere) -- Why, don't Afghans realize that it not America's job defend your country or feed Afghans.

A number of analysts have criticized the Washington move, and add that U.S. does not have interest in building the capacity of Afghanistan. Adding that the need for the aircrafts were more in Afghanistan.

Host Shahpoor Bakhtyar discusses the issue with the following guests:

Panel:
1. Daud Kalakani, MP
2. Gharzai Khuwakhozhi, Military Analyst
3. Ahmad Shah Ramazan, MP

Pakistan, from what I can tell, paid for the equipment. Unless the Afghans can afford it, they need to keep quiet. Pakistan has, for years , offered to give heavy weapons to Afghanistan (something no other nation has offered), which has been denied numerous times, they have no real right to complain.

.
One might ask why hasn't the US given some of these old fighter jets to Afghanistan? I mean, they need it the most and a Taliban takeover of Afghanistan will be nothing short of humiliation for NATO. Sure they would need to be trained but they could have trained the Afghan Air Force before the withdrawal.

I will tell you why, the US doesn't trust the Afghan government and believe that some of these weapons might end up at the hands of third parties who are willing to pay in the pockets of bureaucrats and top military officials. They need to stop being bitter and realize that they are still run by crooks.

.
Maybe focusing on reducing desertion levels within acceptable limits and eliminating the rampant abuse of drugs within the ANA would be a more fruitful discussion than discussing what Pakistan does or does not get !

They don't have any infrastructure to keep F16 running which include pilots. Can Afghans afford to bear the cost?. Answer is no and they need at least 3 years to go for F16 training. All these so called analyst first check the capacity Afghans having and they have to invest atleast 3 billion to get F16 facilities and + training for Pilots and ground crews

Afghan air force does not have the capability to maintain an equipment like F-16. When US was deciding which choppers to give to Afghan forces, they ran in the same dilemma at that time as well.

Arrey bhai can anybody tell these afghanis it's f16 the fighter aircraft not the m16 the assault rifle.

That's a good one -- lol -- an f16 and not an m16 -- really a good one

IMHO Pakistanis and friends are missing the point here.

If the US was giving Turkey surplus military items would Pakistanis be screaming foul?
If the US was giving Bangladesh surplus military items would Pakistanis be screaming foul?

But our Afghan "brothers" are huffing and puffing at the US that it is giving surplus items to Pakistan -- items which the Afghans must know that they cannot operate -- I mean come on -- the ANA cannot maintain Humvees, the f-16s would rot like the carcasses of Mig-21s that litter Bagram and Shindand.

So I think the question is why would our Afghan "brothers" cry foul? Any takers? ;-)

It is disheartening to see some members here on PDF respond to the original post in an emotional manner and accuse Afghans. Remember the OP has always tried to maligine Afghans and spin news which shows that Afghans are by default have nothing else to do by wish ill to Pakistani friends. There are of course idiots on the Afghan side who may see value in a continuous conflict between us and you but the bottom line is that majority of the Afghans and the current administration knows and wants normal relations between the neighbors.

It is not our business what you buy, we would rather have a a stable and strong neighbor then a non functioning neighbor.

So I say instead of F16s, hope you guys get F35s ;)

PS : As for operating complex aircraft, remember in the 80s Afghan airforce did operate hundreds of fighter jets, so operating F16s is not like landing a man on the moon, it just out of our budget at the moment and not inline with the kind of enemy we face at the moment. We will buy F16 in the future, should our budget and security needs permit.

I appreciate you taking the time out to post on here and for providing us with a pleasant Afghan experience.

However Afghans living in Afghanistan are not echoing the same sentiments. I am not sure where you are based, you seem enlightened so I am guessing you live abroad.

Pakistanis don't really care that much what other countries are doing when it comes to progress. But when Pakistan does something, build economic corridor, India complains. Buys weapons from US, Afghanistan complains.

What is this moronic attitude? I understand this coming from India because they truly are a douche bag selection of people but Afghans are mirroring. Its pathetic. I hope you understand. A lot work needs to be done in Afghan society to reverse.

What is Afghanistan? I see a lot of postings about this mostly from Pakistani342 but I don't know what it is!
