About 1,100 Afghans given Indian citizenship in past 3 yrs: Indian Govt

NEW DELHI: About 1,100 people from the trouble-torn Afghanistan have been given Indian citizenship in the past three years, the government said today.

"1,083 Afghan nationals have been granted citizenship during the last three years (ie January 1, 2007 to December 31, 2009)," Minister of State for Home Affairs, Mullappally Ramachandran, told the Rajya Sabha in a written reply.

The grant of citizenship under the Citizenship Act, 1955 and Rules made thereunder is a multi-level and multi-agency activity.

As per rule 11 and 12 of the Citizenship Rules, 2009, an application for grant of citizenship is to be submitted by the applicant to the collector within whose jurisdiction the applicant is ordinarily a resident. It is then moved to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) by the state administration concerned for necessary actions.

"Since initial application is submitted to the collector concerned and a number of agencies are involved in the processing of applications for grant of citizenship, no centralised data base of pending cases is maintained. All cases received in the MHA are processed as expeditiously as possible," the Minister said.

The same thing applies to pakistan. if india gets something from thousands, i am sure paksitan can get alot of things out of milions of refugees in their soil. so dont beat the drums of brotherhood and helping refugees.

The millions of refugees were shelterless, foodless and clothless and needed our help.

We had done which no one had done for them simple as that.


And NO you can not compare the biggest refugee population with selected One Thousand people properly screened and documented.

We had millions of Afghans who were not properly documented neither have proper registration hence we could not get any spying benefits against India from these Afghans.

Whereas on the other hand a specific number of Afghans properly screened and selected by India for citizenship can play a critical role in spying on Pakistan and helping RAW backed terrorists.

I am afraid you needed them for your proxy war in afghanistan to save your own skin from the soviets. secondly, it was the international community which were pouring biliions of dollars in civilian and military aid to them through pakistan, pakistan didnt pay it from its own pocket. pakistan was also taking its shares especially from america.

Why not? we can compare, except you had a higher number of them with higher advantage. and who cares about documentation as long as you get what you wanted.
