First of all, they are not extremists. Even a pork eating alcohol guzzling man(don't mean any disrespect) could shout before launching Direct Action Day - "We will either take Pakistan or we shall break India"!
They are trying to carve it into pieces even now though. They come in peace.
Sometimes I think Jinnah was just like me - shamelessly opportunistic, fiercely resolute and very little conscience*. Great for running a country, not for founding it.

*For a statesman, these are virtues. From Bismarck to Lincoln - in realpolitik those qualities are positives. I have greater respect for Jinnah than I have for Nehru. Our stalwarts like Patel and Radhakrishna were sidelined to died early.

If India had to become a radical country then it would have become one long back.Lets not forget that it was a hindu king of kerala who gave the land and permission to build the first mosque in India.
Hindu were very tolerant of other religion, but thats till they were cornered and attacked/converted.
Even now if you come to India you'll see that most of the hindus here have a minority complex, though in number we 're supposed to be the majority. Ironical isnt it??
So I would say Muslim league and its fear (ostensibly for a baseless reason ) is what caused partition.

If not an Islamic republic, it makes no sense for Pakistan to even exist. Jinnah was clear that he wanted an Islamic Pakistan - true, not in words, but by actions. He was far too shrewd to let his inner convictions come out into the open, being a master barrister.
