NEW DELHI: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has claimed it has documents that prove the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s university degree is fake.

AAP Chief wrote a letter to the Delhi University on Friday urging it to publish Modi’s degree on its website for the public, the NDTV reported.

AAP alleges that that no "Narendra Damodar Modi" passed out of the university in 1978 as the PM had professed in his 2014 poll papers.

The AAP claims to have tracked down the degree certificate of Narendra Mahavir Modi, from Alwar in Rajasthan, who graduated in 1978. But Modi is from Vadnagar in Gujarat, the party says, citing his school certificates.

The NDTV contacted PM Modi's namesake, he confirmed that he was in the Delhi University between 1975 and 1978. "It is a lovely coincidence that I am also called Narendra Modi...it is a matter of pride for me," he said.

The Bharatiya Janata Party said that the allegations were too “silly” to respond to.

I normally don't understand that when people have irrefutable evidence ...why do they not go to court instead of just causing public uproar. If they have the solid evidence, they should go the court, prove and get him disqualified or they just do not have any confidence in the judicial system of the country?

These questions should have been asked long before.

Congos to NDTV for even contacting the namesake of Modi. Time will tell if Indians are stupid enough to care about degrees of PM after being ruled by one from Harvard for 10 years.

Its not unique to India, have you never seen politicians sparring in other democratic countries. Courts are rarely used to settle scores or to make a point.
The same AAP guy made an allegation of corruption against another ruling party member(now minister) and lost in a court case when the ruling party member took him to court for defamation. That is very rare though, the minister felt aggrieved enough to file a lawsuit.
