What's new

A Sino-centric Asia is unlikely

It is certainly true that Sino-Indian conflicts only serve the interest of China's enemies. The West in general and the US in paraticular would love to see that happen. I guess I am not as optimistic as you are. With the Indian media and politicians constantly adding fuel to anti-China sentiments, I have a hard time forseeing a rosy scenario.

Exactly right. As the saying goes:

The geopolitical situation always changes, in ten years we might be facing a completely new set of problems and challenges. Today it will be India, who will it be tomorrow? There will always be other enemies who will try to get us to fight others on their behalf, and hurt ourselves.

The only thing we should worry about now, is improving the lives of the Chinese people. That is the most important thing of all. Getting into an armed conflict with another nation will only hurt the Chinese people, and hurt our economic development.

I want to add another proverb that perfectly describes the scenario:

唇亡齿寒

Hey guys... atleast provide some rough translation for these if you are posting in World Affairs. At the moment they seem to be "encrypted" for us who don't know mandarin.

Yes that sums up the modern world. Even if a country crashes on the other side of the planet, the rest of us will feel it too.

The one in my post means: World matters not permanent.

(The English equivalent would be: "Things change". Or as they say in Buddhism, "The only constant is change".)

Seigecrossbow's one means: Lips gone teeth cold.

(The English equivalent would be: "Interdependence", i.e. nations and people rely on each other, and should cooperate with each other.)

Ok. I'll do a translation for my proverb: 唇亡齿寒. The literal meaning of the phrase is "your teeth will be cold if you lost your lips" and here is the story behind it.

During the Spring and Autumns era when China was divided into many city states there was constant warfare amongst the various nations. One of the city states, the state of Jin, was among the most powerful and the ruling monarch Jin Xian Gong wanted to wished to conquer the nation Yu. Instead of attacking Yu directly, however, Jin Xian Gong's advisor told him to bribe the Yu monarch and pretend that the Jin Army only wished to attack the state of Guo, a neighbor of Yu and only wished to use Yu as passage way since Jin didn't share its borders with Guo. Despite protest from his advisor, who said that the nations of Yu and Guo are like lips and teeth, the foolish Yu Monarch took the bribe regardless and Jin was able to conquer Guo easily. When the Jin army returned triumphantly they conquered Yu as well.

The past is eerily similar to the present, isn't it?

. . .
When it says Sino-centric asia, they do know that includes countries like Iran, Saudi Arabia, and Israel? Sorry, but Asia is too large to be dominated by a single culture.

That's right. The fact is lost upon the author of this ridiculous thread. Check my response a few posts back on the subject.
