What's new

A reality check with regards to foreign tourists.

Honestly it wasn't that bad and even though he was firm with his opinions he wasn't hostile. I understand her being shaken but we need to put things in perspective here i.e. the country is new to tourism and this was one chap among tens of millions.
I've seen far, far worse in other countries including her own (Turkey) but that doesn't put me off those countries.

I understand but better avoid potential mishaps. I would like to see at least some guidelines to these travellers from the government.

I also believe they are targeting the wrong market. Turkey as you know has a large market of Muslim families coming form the Middle East and even Pakistan these days.

Tableeghi jamat has done this damage. You cannot make anyone recite Kalima as per Islamic teaching but these tableeghis teach otherwise. The faith is about sincerity and person's free will. I love Islam and believe it is the truth faith and the only way. But I won't walk up to random man or woman and start preaching them in this naked way. Rather I will show them the true side of the Islam through practices and if they get convinced, I will more than welcome him or her to embrace Islam... but not like this tableeghi jamat style.. no way.
TBH, salute to this fruitseller. He have more guts in him than many 'sophisticated educated' types to say the right thing to spoiled liberal idiots...

Islam does not stop you from showing others the right path, only stop you from doing this by force.

I do not see this fruitseller making that woman recite kalima on gunpoint or something...

Sir that's simply not true. I have seen women walking into the churches with bare heads and naked legs (in skirts). A few Churches might have strict dress codes. However I will expect any women trying to enter a masjid, to cover herself up respectfully. Furthermore, I don't get the obsession of the people of subcontinent with women wearing jeans. Jeans is a lot more covering (if not torn around the knees) than the thin cotton shalwar through which skin colour is visible.
Every church in Italy maybe it has to do with romantic Catholic churches and orthodox church

Salaam

It may have been so but I've been to these places multiple times. Just a few weeks ago I was there and I saw women in jeans walking about without objection from people.

I've seen even local - as in Pakistani - females going about in jeans and such there and people understand to keep it themselves.

My guess is that the situation didn't unfold as is being presented - or I may have misunderstood - it seems more likely that had a conversation with the guy about being Muslim and maybe after that he may have asked if she could recite the Kalima or something. I can see his disapproval of her dressing coming from such a conversation - but not out of nowhere.

I've been to these areas sufficient times to know that this sort of thing would be exceedingly uncommon.

Never seen a tableeghi asking others to recite kalima. All they do is invite people to whatever they are doing at the local masjid.

The only thing I got from reading your post is that you are too afraid to preach the religion you believe is true.

People act like sensitive snowflakes too much. If someone is advising you something good then just bite your ego and listen. If more people listened to people advising them, then our societies wouldn't be wrecked up so much.

A man did something similar to me at gym about a year ago. He saw me doing something which he thought was wrong (islamically) and he brought it to my attention.

The guys tone in the video was fine. Only downside is probably that he should've accepted that she was Muslim without asking her to recite the kalima in order to prove it. Maybe he's never seen a turk women on a bike before?

Why is this minuscule incident an issue? Now it all makes sense!!
What I could not understand is that why this particular incident had become such a big deal that there was a need to open a thread and flash it on defence.pk. These two posts make the matter abundantly clear.

these self annointed champions of righteousness can be found in basically every country across the globe...how much do you wanna bet that a hijabi tourist in america or canada would pick up a criticism or two from their native local vendors. its not worth a thread...

I think the problem started when she said that she is Muslim. Now, if you are a muslim women then there are certain limits you can not cross. And he said those things only because the women claimed that she was a muslim Although this is not the way to communicate that but then we can not blame that man. Its the culture speaking. There should be some instructions for foreigners. When the visa is approved a small leaflet giving some information about local culture and some recommendations regarding clothing, specially when traveling to small cities and villages, is very important to avoid such embarrassing situations. Absence of knowledge about local culture and society might lead to some unfortunate incident.
No one can change the tinking of people overnight but what we can do is provide instructions to travelers for their and our betterment.

She wanted this, someone check her motives. This seems very deliberate

Azul Ozbay is a Turkish solo traveller. She posted this video on her Instagram to her 46,000 followers.

Apparently a fruit seller in Pakistan(Abottabad/Mansehra?) first made her recite the Kalima and then proceeded to criticize the way she was dressed because according to him she was showing her body...by the end of the video, you can clearly hear her being shaken.

There was a thread here some time ago about Pakistan being ready for foreign tourists. You can debate that, but in my view, Pakistan is absolutely not ready for solo female travellers.

You cannot really blame the fruit seller here because he knows no better.

Gilgit/Baltistan is not an issue but the route through areas like Kohistan and Chilas definitely is not ready for the influx of jeans wearing females.

There is also that other issue that India faces and although our society is no where as deep in the gutter as the Indians but we know how still there are vultures in our society who prey on the vulnerable.

The government if it is serious, should first take into confidence and educate the communities which can see an influx of Western tourists. The other thing which could be done is focus on the Muslim tourist market.

Pakistan could be a cheap alternative to the likes of Switzerland for Muslim families in the Arab world and South East Asia.
It only happens in punjab and kpk. Nothing of this sort in gilgit baltistan and Islamabad.
Yar apna kam kero . The guy was thinking she was White. So why bothering telling her what to do.
But when these people come and they would interact with the modern world only then they would change otherwise they would stay the same.

Good then stop advertising through social media influencers like that Polish girl.

The government should then present clear guidelines on how to dress....like perhaps no jeans and take dupatta.
You would directly order them to wear topi wala Burka.
Bhai go to other Islamic countries.. They wear a loose garb abaya type thing and cover their head but no concept of dupata .
That's is only Pakistani concept .
You can wear skin tight clothes , revealing clothes but hang a tiny chiffon dupata on your shoulder and you are golden .
Now we should learn to know others as they are . And not tell them what to do or not to do. Surely they dress decently already .
I have seen people even criticising men for wearing shorts. What kind of society is this . If anything is disturbing you , you might look otherside.

And has he given this authority to tell everyone what to do.
Next he would be buying gun and putting it to her head and forcing her to do what he think is right and next he would march to Islamabad to impose his own brand of Islam.
