What's new

A reality check with regards to foreign tourists.

The local community cant even be educated on polio vaccinations, and you are talking about this. How many Kms above earth are you in orbit?

BEFORE you visit a destination, isn't it YOUR job to do some homework? What was she thinking, she is Alexander on his elephant, hence can gallivant anywhere?

It sure is, she didn't know how to deescalate, and as per you she was "visibly shaken."

The things people do for "likes" and social media popularity!
Hahahaha :enjoy:

So true.

Why should WE welcome vulgarity under the guise of promoting tourism?

It is the responsibility of Pakistani tourism system (if any) to guide potential tourists about dress code and values in different parts of Pakistan.

If I am a tourist and I am visiting a foreign country, I would do my homework first.

I am right here on earth, in Pakistan these days and a concerned citizen.

The thread isn't about her reaction to the situation. The thread is about Pakistan, particularly those areas in Pakistan who will likely see an influx of foreign tourists being ready.

The government has launched an entire program and eased visa restrictions to attract exactly these sort of tourists. As a citizen, I am concerned as this video shows the local community not exactly being educated about that.

Pakistan being an Islamic Republic should also advertise what it can deliver.

Good then stop advertising through social media influencers like that Polish girl.

The government should then present clear guidelines on how to dress....like perhaps no jeans and take dupatta.
Was polish girl harassed? Was she asked to recite Kalima

Maybe this woman said something or bragged about something...but of course we will never know but blaming a fruit seller is easy to get famous

What about her education vs the fruit seller?

Was she not educated enough to learn about Pakistan before coming or observe how Polish girl was dressed?

Sorry we are not open minded but doesn't mean you attack our fruit seller

That is also my contention.

You should advertise what you offer. Like we know Dubai is the kanjar Khana of the Middle East and a glorified shopping mall. It advertises that and delivers on that :-)

Vs

A foreign tourist who thought people would puja her

Azul Ozbay is a Turkish solo traveller. She posted this video on her Instagram to her 46,000 followers.

Apparently a fruit seller in Pakistan(Abottabad/Mansehra?) first made her recite the Kalima and then proceeded to criticize the way she was dressed because according to him she was showing her body...by the end of the video, you can clearly hear her being shaken.

There was a thread here some time ago about Pakistan being ready for foreign tourists. You can debate that, but in my view, Pakistan is absolutely not ready for solo female travellers.

You cannot really blame the fruit seller here because he knows no better.

Gilgit/Baltistan is not an issue but the route through areas like Kohistan and Chilas definitely is not ready for the influx of jeans wearing females.

There is also that other issue that India faces and although our society is no where as deep in the gutter as the Indians but we know how still there are vultures in our society who prey on the vulnerable.

The government if it is serious, should first take into confidence and educate the communities which can see an influx of Western tourists. The other thing which could be done is focus on the Muslim tourist market.

Pakistan could be a cheap alternative to the likes of Switzerland for Muslim families in the Arab world and South East Asia.
I don't think this is something unusual ... These cultural type of things do happen. For example if you wear hijab in west there is a fair chance somebody suggest you not wearing Hijab ...

He also made her recite the Kalima. If you are presenting yourself as a welcoming destination for tourist, make sure you educate the local community.

he didn't made her. She could have said its none of your business and stop him right there when he asked if she was a muslim. She was the one who was continuing the conversation and entertaining him. If she felt any kind of hostility or awkwardness, she had the choice to say 'f off' to him and move on.

When going to gora land most of us would read up about it...like when going to Vatican (independent state it is called)...many will read up how to dress to be allowed in the cathedral not just in Vatican but every cathedral will ask you go buy a scarf and cover your bare shoulders....
Sir that's simply not true. I have seen women walking into the churches with bare heads and naked legs (in skirts). A few Churches might have strict dress codes. However I will expect any women trying to enter a masjid, to cover herself up respectfully. Furthermore, I don't get the obsession of the people of subcontinent with women wearing jeans. Jeans is a lot more covering (if not torn around the knees) than the thin cotton shalwar through which skin colour is visible.

Folks don't worry she didn't think much of it, here is her instagram post translated;

BE A WOMAN IN THE WORLD
A moment from Pakistan.
I stopped by the road to get fruit. The seller told me before you are sexist! (I think he meant sexy) What I said - because I have a helmet on my head, a protected jacket and a pair of protected pants (even my hips have protection) and boots ... Everybody is looking at your body For the first time, I have encountered. Even when he's dressed as a robocop, his mind is there. It's one of those moments that upset and hurt me. But it would be wrong to charge it all over the country. He's one of millions. I've never met a single person in Pakistan who is a breaker except this man.
