A patriotic Iranian prosecuted in America

.
The show has both jewish and muslim Persians.

Shahs of Sunset - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I think majority are Jews, anyway that is beside the point. Most Iranians in America have complained about that show putting a bad light on Iran. Many have accused it of being a continuing media campaign against Iran. Which include movies like 300, Argo, Not Without my Daughter and so on.

Iranian-American petitioners call Bravo's 'The Shahs of Sunset' racist | Fox News

.
The problem is not getting in touch with Iran but to help the Iranian government which the US considers its enemy. He sure is a hero for the Iranians. But The US is just treating him like an enemy spy should be treated. Iranians really cannot complain.

yeah, sorry. In unnecessry replies I failed to point that out. Of course iranians can like him, no issues with that. But USA is treating him much fairly than similar person will be treated in Iran.

You can only be a traitor if you consider the country you are living in as your own country. If you don't, then by definition, you are not a traitor.

Yes it is a sense of differing morality I guess. I know that Indians in UK keep their religious values and such, what I meant was that they usually term themselves as British when asked "where do you come from?" Where as Iranians and Middle Easterners as a whole usually give their indigenous country's as a response. Again not trying to say it is like this with all people, just something I have observed.

He gave up his Iranian citizenship for an American one. Helping Iranians or working to preserve Iranian culture is one thing. But helping the Iranian government to launch a satellite is not really acceptable. Especially when the US has an embargo on Iran. He is definitely a hero for Iranians in Iran. But you cannot expect the US to not punish him.

.
So the muslim Persian Americans are radically different from these people?

Yes and no!

But what I want to point out is that Persian Jews are loyal to Israel and represent their own Jewishness and their own culture too.

I know some Iranians might not know this, but having visited Southern California numerous times and being friends with some Persian Jews, I have seen that Persian Jews are a very tight and connected community and their culture, religion, rituals, and sense of belonging is very different than Muslim Persians, atheist Persian, and Nationalist Persian!

He didn't give up his Iranian citizenship! No Iranian gives up their Iranian citizenship to become American! lol

Yup, this is a better description then mine regarding Persian Jews.

This is what the article says :
Modanlo was convicted of conspiring to violate the government’s long-standing embargo that prohibits U.S. citizens from directly or indirectly doing business with Iran. Prosecutors said Modanlo tried to get around the embargo by using a front company in Switzerland to conceal the involvement of Iran and funnel money to his bank account.

. . . .
@iranigirl2 are you a Persian Jew, Persian Muslim, Persian Atheist, or Persian nationalist? :smart:

Iran doesn't recognize dual nationality, but it's definitely possible.

I heard Iran would take away his other passport if he visited Iran?

Sums up Persian Jews pretty much ( or at least the ones I've meet in Southern California)

Shayna Moh, 24, a Persian Jew who was born in the U.S., summed up succinctly what much of her community is feeling. "It feels weird," she said. "It's like my background versus my culture. I wouldn't like having to choose."

But when it comes down to it, "Yes, of course I would support Israel," Moh said. "I'm Jewish. My religion is more important."

Another one

"I would support Israel," said Ben Samih, 24, who studied political science at Queens College in New York. He came to the U.S. when he was four and is "basically American" but says most of his mother's family is still in Iran. "There's a lot of people [in the community] who are saying, 'Let's bomb them, let's bomb them, let's do it,' but it's a tough situation."

Another Persian Jew true feeling

Eddie Yakubov, 36, Shop Delight's owner, said Israel had an obligation to attack. "Israel has to go in," he said. "If it doesn't, it's going to be a bigger problem."

And as for Persian Jews in Great Neck, well, "They are Jewish," Yakubov said. "They want Israel to succeed and to win. They are concerned about what will happen to Israel if Iran gets the bomb."

Eddie Aziz, 29, agreed and said that an attack on Iran "feels necessary."

"Iran is a threat to Israel," he said, adding that he's a longtime member of AIPAC, a U.S.-based pro-Israel lobby, so he's "more aware of what's going on than what's in the news." Aziz wouldn't elaborate.

and All Iranian-Americans have Dual citizenship! Most Iranian-Americans travel to Iran at least every other year! They don't ever run into any problem!

No, they don't really care. I know plenty of Iranians with dual nationality. They don't recognise it, but that doesn't mean they will confiscate your passport. All that it means in practical terms is, that if you are caught of a certain crime in Iran, and have dual nationality, the country of your second nationality has no authority to help you.

You born here or America though? :pop:

That is why its a problem have dual citizenship because then there is a problem of dual loyalties which becomes a bigger problem when the two countries are hostile to each other. :undecided:

I always say that blood is thicker then water. Even if I lived 100 years in a different country and had their passport, my allegiance will always be to Iran.
