It was important for Zarif to do send clear, official message. Europeans will take notice.
The question will be whether the Europeans hold their ground on honoring the treaty and not even try to appease Trump by offering to add certain clauses or addendum. The deal should be honored and it actually doesn't look good to the US and Trump that there's this obvious ploy to concoct something in order to show Iran violating the treaty. All they really have is your proxy ambitions in Iraq but especially Lebanon & Syria. That part was obviously not included in the JCPOA and even when it was signed, Netanyahu wasn't happy about it because of that, but Obama wasn't concerned with appeasing Israel to that extent. He wanted the deal to focus solely on the nuclear program which is does. Now that Trump is in office and the Trump/Bibi love affair is in full swing -- especially after the Jerusalem move -- the Israelis are emboldened and are trying very hard to take advantage of that love affair which was non-existent during the Obama administration, at least not the liking of the Israelis.
The other tough part of all this for Iran is North Korea's seeming capitulation. That came out of the blue and slapped us all upside the head and of course has empowered Trump to no end since you know he's going to milk the credit for that to no end. Now that leaves Iran open to his bullying wrath with only the JCPOA to protect it.
The scary part for you is that North Korea had strong allies with China and even Russia. Iran is really standing alone in this and if push comes to shove, there really won't be any substantial friend for Iran except for the powerless masses who object. That's the tough part for Iran, just like it was for Iraq.
