A disappointed Pakistani Christian

. . .
Sounds more like juvenile behavior from the writer's classmates than anything else.

Christian do not face discrimination due to their religion, they face it coz most of the ppl in their community are poor. Which is unfortunate. This is also done to the ppl of lower class who are Muslim. Its a mind set we got from our elders who converted from Hinduism. Unfortunately this thing is very strong in our culture. Even in my house my wife marked separate utensils for the poor, i.e. the Christian sweeper and Muslim driver and cook. She gets really irritated when i use those utensils. She has no answer for her bias but she can not do away from it. May Allah (SWT) forgive and give us courage to shun these shameful practices of ours.

i once showered in the servants quarters and my grandfather (bless his soul) was about to beat me with his walking stick....this was back in late 1980s....

yes the mindset exists....may it be totally squashed.

it's un-Islamic

I will tell you what’s haraam; teaching your children to hate instead of love…that’s what’s haraam.

Our children are not taught to hate, but they learn to hate.

When your beloved NATO (mostly Christian) is bombing the living lights out of Afghanistan and Iraq, and giving Pakistan a hard time, if there is anything a Pakistan Muslim kid will learn is to hate these people who they see as a threat.

So don't bring your ignorance here next time

The author clearly attributes her classmates' behavior to the teaching of their parents. So it's not "juvenile" but a product of mature instruction.

For example: as I have darker skin, I had been called very racist things by my classmates, when I was very young. As I am a Shia, a lot of people in Punjab also had a lot of misconceptions about my sect, & even though they were very open (almost in an inconsiderate, abrasive way) about their misconceptions, they did not express it in a harmful way, or maybe I never felt threatened by it.

There are problems in every society, & even more so in Pakistan, but I also think people need to "develop thicker skin".

P.S. And to be honest, I find it quite hard that people wouldn't eat with her because she was Christian, especially when she's from cosmopolitan Karachi & going to an elite school. I live in interior Sindh, we have a lot of Hindus working here at very good positions, we eat together, we laugh. We embrace, we go to each other's religious & social events. We're all very good friends, & we talk to each other openly, including the difficulties faced by different groups in Pakistan. But at the end, despite all of Pakistan's problems, they'd rather be part of the solution, & stick it out, rather than giving up on Pakistan because of the "bullies in the playground".

All people need is someone's back & full support (like we provide to our Hindu friends at work), it goes a long way, & they start looking at things a lot more positively.

It sounds very much like a parallel to America's struggle to alleviate racism, especially against African-Americans. That struggle is in its third generation and has been mostly successful. The first step was not only to integrate the armed forces and schools but to enforce civilized conduct within them: white boy spits on black girl he gets detention, white officer throws racial epithet to black soldier he gets disciplined.

Its more got to do with poverty.... il be honest.... christians in Pakistan are mostly poor and really dark and do the most small jobs normal people wont even consider...i.e,sweepers etc.... which is why people actually dnt feel like sitting with them or even sharing food with them.... while thts not the case with the middle class minorities etc... if u know what i mean....

it is not Islam that is the problem at all, it is the wretched people who claim to be Muslims but have hatred, racism and religious stigma engrained in their core.

He has figured out correct .. this has nothing to do with the religion ... its the people

.
I hope every minority in pakistan just converts to islam ... That will solve many problems ...i dont care which god they are gonna believe atleast they will not face these sort of discrimination ..

I also wish all religions on this earth just vanish and only strong law and order and strong justice system remains ...

it's their own business and not yours to decide!

.
Its not my decision .. Its my hope .. Am i not free to hope ?

Once other religions are gone sectarian divides will appear. That's what happens when you concentrate on eliminating other religions rather than eliminating baseless hatred.

Pakistan always has and always will have minority groups....it's actually people like you that ''benefit'' from human misery because it gives you a chance to log on to defence.pk and spew out misinformation

you know what your problem is, Solomon? You realize the futility in what you do and yet you do it anyways.

Pakistan is for PAKISTANIS. All those citizens of Pakistan are PAKISTANIS.
