A Christian Province in Pakistan?

This defeats the purpose of secularism. Secularism isn't being nice to all religions, its supposed to be the exclusion of ANY religious doctrine from governance.

Every inch of Pakistan should be governed by a single set of laws applicable to all Pakistanis without Islamic or any other religions doctrine having the supremacy over it thereby ensuring every Pakistani is an equal Pakistani.

A bit of a reminder, Pakistan was never made in the "Name of Islam". The slogan "Pakistan ka matlab kya, La illaha illalah" was coined by young political activists just to go around shouting about in streets. It rhymed, it was catchy.

Other than that, Pakistan was established for the minorities of India to escape the zeal and oppression of the tyrannical Hindu majority of India. This is evident from Jinnah's inaugural address to all of Pakistan. How it turned out, is a different debate, the Pakistani theocratic laws, the change in its name... are all things that happened afterwards, but lets not change history to suit one's version. Pakistan was meant to be secular.

Pakistan was made to secure political, cultural, religious, economic interests of muslims of this part of british india. Also because muslims were in numerical majority in this part and constituted a significant percentage of overall population of british india. Majority community (hindus) were not willing to accomodate concerns of muslim in post british india to keep country united. If hindus leaders had foresight they would have strived to keep country united. We can see political/administrative arrangements in countries like Lebanon to accomodate religious/secretarian complaxities.

There was no need for a seperate country except above mentioned reasons.

However, all people should be treated equally before law e.g. dispute between a jew and Caliph Umer.

Minorities in Paksitan are not very significant part so there is no need to discuss such an issue. largest percentage of minorities is in Tharparker (Sindh) where son of Rana Chandar Singh is district nazim.

Come forward as servants of Islam, organise the people economically, socially, educationally and politically and I am sure that you will be a power that will be accepted by everybody.
Muhammad Ali Jinnah

Pakistan not only means freedom and independence but the Muslim Ideology which has to be preserved, which has come to us as a precious gift and treasure and which, we hope other will share with us.
Muhammad Ali Jinnah

Islam expect every Muslim to do this duty, and if we realise our responsibility time will come soon when we shall justify ourselves worthy of a glorious past.
Muhammad Ali Jinnah

We should have a State in which we could live and breathe as free men and which we could develop according to our own lights and culture and where principles of Islamic social justice could find free play.
Muhammad Ali Jinnah

You have to stand guard over the development and maintenance of Islamic democracy, Islamic social justice and the equality of manhood in your own native soil.
Muhammad Ali Jinnah

Allama Iqbal: I would like to see the Punjab, North-West Frontier Province, Sind and Baluchistan amalgamated into a single State. Self-government within the British Empire, or without the British Empire, the formation of a consolidated North-West Indian Muslim State appears to me to be the final destiny of the Muslims, at least of North-West India.

Pakistan's Flag

The national flag of Pakistan (Urdu: پاکستان کا پرچم) was designed by Syed Amir-uddin Kedwaii and was based on the original flag of the Muslim League, which itself drew inspiration from the flag of the Mughal Empire in India. It was adopted by the Constituent Assembly[1] on August 11, 1947, just days before independence.[2][3][4] The flag is referred to in the national anthem as Parcham-e-Sitāra-o-Hilāl in Urdu (lit. Flag of the Crescent and Star). The flag comprises a dark green field, representing the Muslim majority of Pakistan, with a vertical white stripe in the hoist, representing religious minorities.[5] In the centre is a white crescent moon and a white five-pointed star, which symbolize progress and light respectively.[5] The flag symbolizes Pakistan's commitment to Islam, the Islamic world, and the rights of religious minorities.[6] The flag is flown on several important days of the year including Republic Day and Independence Day. The flag was approved by Muhammad Ali Jinnah, founder of the nation. It is associated with the flag used by the All-India Muslim League as an emblem of its aim of achieving an independent Muslim state. Their flag was green, with a central white star and crescent. At independence in 1947, a white stripe was added at the hoist to represent the state's minorities. The green and white together stand for peace and prosperity. The crescent symbolizes progress, and the star represents light and knowledge.

India should think about it.

The thing is, the strong Islamic ideals and social justices are never in conflict with any humane set of laws which are free and fair.

There is nothing violating these comments of Jinnah by a secular Pakistan. Don't forget Jinnah's comments where he specifically outlined the theme of Pakistan's governance system

I cannot emphasize it too much. We should begin to work in that spirit and in course of time all these angularities of the majority and minority communities, the Hindu community and the Muslim community, because even as regards Muslims you have Pathans, Punjabis, Shias, Sunnis and so on, and among the Hindus you have Brahmins, Vashnavas, Khatris, also Bengalis, Madrasis and so on, will vanish. Indeed if you ask me, this has been the biggest hindrance in the way of India to attain the freedom and independence and but for this we would have been free people long long ago. No power can hold another nation, and specially a nation of 400 million souls in subjection; nobody could have conquered you, and even if it had happened, nobody could have continued its hold on you for any length of time, but for this. Therefore, we must learn a lesson from this. You are free; you are free to go to your temples, you are free to go to your mosques or to any other place or worship in this State of Pakistan. You may belong to any religion or caste or creed that has nothing to do with the business of the State.
Now that is Jinnah's irrevocable commandment on how the BUSINESS of the state should be run.

@ Asim bhai.

With due respect sir , Father didn't said " we must be a secular nation" but he did said to have an " Islamic state " so decide for yourself. The matter is sensitive that is why i have not included my " Personal comments & analysis".

You are free; you are free to go to your temples, you are free to go to your mosques or to any other place or worship in this State of Pakistan. You may belong to any religion or caste or creed that has nothing to do with the business of the State.

Sir i think Islam is the most transparent religion and most multicultural too , Islam does allow every single liberty for Non Muslims , example comes from the first Islamic state of Makkah and medina and then from Jerusalem when Sallah din asked Muslims and Christians to use the same building for worship.

I would also like to say Pakistan being an Islamic republic is far more better than many so called secular countries ie France , Switzerland , India , Denmark in terms of religious freedom.

Ask yourself being a Pakistani wouldn't you even give your life to save a non muslim Pakistani?? I say i will & i know many who will do the same , this is what we call " Freedom of religion ".

The state has not to be a secular state to protect religion , seculars are the worst perpetrators themselves , examples are in front of you.

I just wanted to prove that Pakistan was Not meant to be a Secular entity but modern progressive tolerant Islamic superpower.

Pakistan Christian Post

Mr. Nazir S Bhatti, President, Pakistan Christian Congress, expressed his concern that the international media on coverage of barbaric act of terrorism of killing Christian worshipers at St. Dominic church Bahawalpur stated that christian are 1 % of pakistans population.

It's very important to bring in the notice of international media the facts that Christians are 13 % of the population of Pakistan. We claim that in 1947 at the independence of Pakistan 5 % quota in government services was only allocated to Christians because they were 5 % of the population of Pakistan. The issue of census of Christians has been raised on all forums by the Christians of Pakistan because the Muslim majority adopted measures to hide the true figures of Christians in Pakistan to avoid their due share in the state resources. In 1971, when East Pakistan emerged as new state of Bangladesh, the majority wing of Muslim population in Pakistan, the population percentage of Christians raised up to 10 % of population of Pakistan.

We wish to submit that statistical data of Christian's death and birth was collected from the 15 bishop stations of Pakistan in 1978, which confirmed the population of Christian to be 13 million. It must be noted that census have been not placed since 1981 in Pakistan. For instance, the city of Karachi demanded more seats in parliament in the national general elections of 1985 under military government of zia ul Haque. The sample census was conducted and seats of national assembly of pakistan for Karachi city were raised from 13 to 20 seats but when christian demanded the same sample census in pakistan they were refused because Muslim majority never wanted to give

due share in power of the state and refused to conduct sample census in pakistan. The government of Pakistan was not sincere to allocate seats in democratic institutes proportional to their population in Pakistan.

Because to safeguard constitutional rights it is very important to seek and approach to democratic institutions of state. In the first legislative assembly presided over by founder of Pakistan was of 48 seated in 1947. In this assembly the Christian have four seats and speaker of that assembly was also a Hindu minority member but unfortunately in 1970 when assembly seats were 235, only six Seats Were reserved for Christians. In 1985 national general elections house was again of 235 seats but four seats were allocated for the Christian of Pakistan after 15 years from 1970-1985 elections, the Christian seats were decreased from 6 to 4 seats. In the senate of Pakistan, Christians are provided with no presentation. The majority community had never provided the representation to Christian Proportional to the population and it was basically a denial with equal basic democratic rights in the state.

In the movement of Pakistan as promised, when the house of 48 representatives can move up to 235, according to the gazette notification, that 3 percent rise in the population of Pakistan was recorded every year the decrease in Christian seats was surprising for Christians and it was agreed upon by all the Congress leaders that the proportional to population seats in assembly of Pakistan, Senate of Pakistan, provincial assemblies of all the four provinces, in the Institutes of local bodies and all of the democratic Institutes is the only solution to the problems of Christians.
In the light of above facts we appeal to international media not to take Christians as 1 % of the population of pakistan because the government provided figures are not correct. The Christians are 13 % of population of Pakistan.

The international independent sources and CIA never done census in pakistan and they only give figures which the government gives. In most countries census is conducted after every 10 years but this is not the case in pakistan. The census which was supposed to be done in 1991 was delayed and not done untill 1998 and thats 12 years now.
