WASHINGTON - United States likely to start blocked assistance to Pakistan, Sources have revealed.

The US is currently undergoing a review of its assistance to Pakistan which is expected to be finalised soon, a top Trump administration official has told lawmakers.

The relations between Pakistan and the US nosedived after US President Donald Trump last year accused Islamabad of giving nothing to Washington but “lies and deceit” and providing “safe haven” to terrorists.

With Islamabad playing a crucial role in peace talks with the Taliban, which may ultimately result in the withdrawal of the 14,000 US troops from the war-torn Afghanistan, the Trump administration seems to be reviewing its aid policy to Pakistan.

“We’re undergoing a review of our assistance in Pakistan that we hope will be finalised soon. And we’ll then report to you in terms of what will be going forward,” USAID Administrator Mark Green told members of House Foreign Affairs Committee during a Congressional hearing on Thursday.

In September, the Trump administration cancelled USD 300 million in military aid to Islamabad for not doing enough against terror groups like the Haqqani Network and Taliban active on its soil.

Deadly suicide blast in Quetta: Death toll rises further
Trump also criticised Pakistan in a Twitter post back in November, saying Islamabad was not doing enough to stop terrorism.

“As with all of our programmes, we have the programme metrics that we use. One thing we’re trying to do more of is to shift from outputs to outcomes. So, we have our roadmap with 17 objective metrics that help us measure capacity and commitment in each country where we work or want to work, like Pakistan,” Green said in response to another question on Pakistan.

“So more and more we’re trying to make sure that we’re able to make a difference on the outcome side, hasting the capacity of our host country partners to take on these challenges themselves, although in Pakistan is daunting,” he said, responding to a question from Congressman Brad Sherman.

US envoy Zalmay Khalilzad is spearheading efforts to strike a peace deal with the Taliban with the help of Pakistan to end the 17-year Afghan war, America’s longest. “In spite of our aid to Pakistan, conditions in the Sindh Province of South Pakistan continued to deteriorate in many areas. Schools and hospitals are getting worse in many areas as is water availability,” Sherman said.

It was the need of the time. Americans were very enraged. If mush had refused, he would have ended up like Saddam Hussain, and Pakistan would have ended up like Iraq of 2003. But we too got many things in return, such as much-needed upgradation of our military. But yes, we paid a very heavy price for what we got, and are still paying...

Yes. Pakistan had no choice after 9/11. Not only Uncle Sam was enraged and had the backing of the global community against the Talibans but Pakistan itself was internally divided, economically really weak, and was on the verge of being declared on the Terrorism Watch List then. Also people forget that, between 1998 and 2001, Pakistan tried to reason with the Talibans to remove Al Qaida from Afghanistan and Pakistan even tried take out Al Qaida from Afghanistan with American help. If only the stubborn Talibans had realized what was going to come to them had something like 9/11 were to happen...

Coming to the topic... As I look at the US-Pakistan relationship, Pakistan never acted without taking care of its own interests first. Unfortunately, the concept of 'friendship' doesn't exist in American foreign policy paradigm and that applies to almost every country in the world as far as America is concerned. For Pakistan to have not seen that had been delusional. For example, President Ayub Khan's lament about no American help during the 1965 war was baseless: The US offer of help was against the communist block countries and not against India.

Going forward: I'd say Pakistan should never allow a security presence of Americans in and around Pakistan and maintain good diplomatic and trade relations.

That can be an addition to the "Possibility List" beside what happen on 27th Feb & Afghanistan Chapter.

U.S.A is our old ally. Just some misunderstanding happened after they found Osama bin ladin in Pakistan after 10 years of war in Afghanistan. We need to clear misunderstanding. We can work together. Pakistan is very important due to its geographic location uncle SAM can't ignore it. We can improve trade, and we can get back our good old relation. Pakistan can also play key role in Afghanistan after America exit.
USA looks after its own interests first and foremost. Its reasons for a review of its policies is simply because it cannot afford to let Paklands slip out of its/grasp. However, I hope for once we have people who will bargain hard and not give in to Unkill.
We need more access to trade with US. We need help in infrastructure and development funding but we dont necessarily need arms with the exception of what has already been approved ie some MLU 16s and AH1Zs.
We need access to training but nothing more. If this can be achieved this would be fine for us. Pak lands needs to reinforce its non alligned status allowing it to have friendly ties with all parties foncerned including Uncle Sam. If we bargain hard enough and professionally we may come out with a better outcome than has happened before.
I don't think we want the old relations.

Remember, US used is when they needed to, then discarded is when we become unnecessary.

New relationship should be based on trade and mutual respect.
I agree with all you have said but please remember there is no respect for the weak. Even Allah izza Wa Jal puts the Momin who is strong closer to Him than the weaker Momin. We have an upper hand so we need to deal with them as a superior party. I think the recent Tet a tet has made them realize the implications of a frontal attack not that they were planning one. However whenever the US has withdrawn forces from one country another country has faced the brunt of it. They now realize that there proxies are suffering from a severe case of butt hurt and cannot be relied upon to do the dirties on Paklands. So they need to negotiate.
The previous cancellation of CSF was unfair and has to be rectified whether in kind or in other measures. It is open to negotiations and how negotiations proceed depend on the way the relevant parties are playing their cards.

Pakistan needs to be very careful with the USA - especially with the strong Zionist /Indian lobby that is beginning to pull alot of the strings.

Pakistan needs to work along with all countries including the USA, but needs to
Have its own self interest as first.

Might is right mentality has led the USA to attack/undermine and destroy many countries across the world. Its a rogue nation that is at the mercy if Israel. Out if its 230+ plus history - it has been in conflict with over 200 of them.

Pakistan needs to maintain good relations with them but definitely not trust them - their rogue CIA intelligence agency has formented many conflicts across the globe.

Pakistani's need to get the best deal and definitely need to reject 'cocunut mentality '.

It will be good to upgrade its F-16s or purchase spares and additional ones like it did with its Mirage aircraft. However , this should not be paramount to its strategic interests.

Pakistan has got excellent military ties with a number if countries, including its strategic partner - China. It has the options with a number if sophisticated cutting edge aircraft as the J-10/ J-16 and stealthy aircraft etc.

A country that has sanctioned you many times, drones attack, murdered many of your fellow country men, as has attempted many times to try and dismantle your nuclear capabilities etc.....is no real Friend and should be dealt with cautious.:coffee:

Do you actually believe all that?

According to the latest revelations, there was a jointly established DEVGRU and ISI Operations base in Tarbela to monitor this drama crap made by Pasha, Zardari, Kayani and Sharif Brothers. You really are innocent..
What is it about a joint DEVGRU-ISI base? I've never heard of it before. Care to enlighten me?
