I have lot more respect for my Turkish brothers/sisters... For Muslims it has been said many times in Quran and Hadiths that
"" ALCOHAL IS THE EVIL OF ALL EVILS""....

i agree with that before someone call me a Taliban. When you are a Muslim at least try to abide by the basic principles of Islam. You dont have to be a scholar of Islam but if you call yourself its follower, then at least stick to its basic rules.

To each, his own, no one needs a certificate from you or anyone else for their 'Muslimness'... so thanks but no thanks.

It felt the Turk soap producers were trying too hard to portray Turkey as secular.
Secularism is the separation of State and Religion, it has nothing to do with beein religious or not.

Turkey is secular and majority supports it.

Good one 'xenon54', that is indeed the case. Lots of our fellow Muslims don't even know the difference between 'secularism' and 'atheism'.

i dont drink whiskey much too... which single malt are you talking about... I have never tried any single malt may be I should..
jd is the only one I like a bit... althought its american.

For beginners I'd recommend something which is smooth, not too peaty and also not highly expensive (~ $50). Something like Dalwhinnie 15 or Cragganmore 12 would be ideal. Even the more common Glenlivet 12 or Glenfiddich 12 aren't a bad start. Don't go directly to a Laphroaig, a Lagavulin or an Ardbeg because they are more fashionable.

glenfiddich 12 is the only one I know available here... I should try..

Ofcourse religion is also a factor but let me explain, alcohol is beeing seen as something that only causes problems, you can drink a beer or two with your friends or a vine at the dinner and nobody would say anything but people will look at you condescending if your regularly drunk, no matter if hes religious or not, its more like a social codex that concerns everybody, also secular people.

For exsample, im 24 and i still cant smoke in front of my parents even thought its not forbidden in Islam, its been considered as disrespectfull against elders.

And to this 85% non drinkers thing, i think that people who only drink at special ocassions also said that they dont drink alcohol when this poll was made.

To be honest it is the same in India too, at least for most people. Very few in India would share a drink with his dad. Smoking and drinking are generally considered bad habits. Personally I think smoking is indeed a bad habit. I started smoking in college and smoked for 2-3 years. But fortunately I have been able to quit it completely. I am an almost (smoke only with drinks occasionally) non smoker now for about 1.5 years. You can tell the difference when you quit smoking, you start to feel healthier. Alcohol in moderation on the other hand is not so harmful. But many people fail to adhere to the "moderation" part and start drinking too much regularly. Then it's a slow poison for you, both physically and socially.

Subjects were grouped into abstainers, light, moderate, and heavy drinkers. The order of mortality rates from lowest to highest were moderate, light, heavy, and abstainers. The increased risk for abstainers was twice the mortality rate as for moderate drinkers

Get it down you lads, you'll live longer.

I actually need to start drinking a bit more. Been off it recently and only had about a beer in the last two weeks.

Only if you something constructive to add. Alas!
