69 M1A2 Abrams tanks to Saudi Arabia

Half of what you said is untrue and stems from your ignorance. I will let other people here explain things to you.
Please, i wasn't trying to be rude and neither should you. If something I wrote was false please point it out and correct me. Again just my opinion and i have no problem being wrong I am only here to learn and debate.

For the case of logistical problem, the entire army follows different command structures, for example the French tanks and equipment follow a certain regional command and so forth, and that regional command has extensive knowledge and its own logistics department.

In case of operating three different types of aircrafts, it has been the mainstay of the RSAF to operate three different types of aircrafts at all time following specialized direction, heavy Lo-Hi-Lo bombing by the tornado, strategic bombing and air defense by the F-15, and Air superiority fighter for the Typhoon. The RSAF is integrating the Multirole feature to a higher degree but it will not give up its specialized mission program all together. This gives the RSAF and edge in the air.

For buying M1s from the US, the modernization program is done in Saudi Arabia save for only the first patch of tanks, Egypt makes the M1A1 tanks a tank Saudi Arabia does NOT operate, we operate the M1A2 tank, so there is no way Egyot can even provide that.

Very good. Does Saudi have its own maintenance factory for M1s and does it manufacture its own spare parts or does it still rely on the states for that?

The AMX-30 is all but obsolete. Does Saudi intend to upgrade its M60s to supplement its M1s and what does it have in place to keep the M60s going?

Still doesn't address whether Saudi is capable of maintaining its fleet at war time without US help or otherwise. Again, even the RAF had to cannabalise some of its Typhoons to keep others in the air during the Libya campaign. Can Saudi maintain and produce spare parts for all its F-15s and how much do they rely on the Americans for upkeep?

The M1A2 doesn't differ that much from the A1. If there was the will to do this it wouldn't have been a massive problem especially with US help.

Yes we do have our maintenance factory and spare parts production for the M1A2 tanks. We have made our own made upgrade of our M60 Tanks and I have made a thread about it use the search function.

We are more than capable of maintaining it. The RAF had to cannblize its aircraft is because it is a NEW plane, it still needs time to mature. We have spare parts and maintence facility, google Al-Salam air craft industries. And the A2 is very different from the A1, we use a different armor and electronics than the ones in the Egyptian tanks. And even if it wasn't that much different Egypt can not in anyway make the M1A2S we want.

@Mosamania

Wasn't Saudi Arabia planning to buy the Turkish Altay tank???:what:

To what extent is it self sufficient and what parts does it produce?

Without foreign technicians and advisers.

Its been in service for a decade now. All teething problems should have been solved especially as the tranche 3 has been produced in large numbers. Still not convinced that the Saudis can fully maintain the Typhoon alone.

Doesnt clarify anything nor does it fill me with confidence.

Considering we have over 20 years experience with the Abrams and the only remaining factory it would seem that we can make them with extensive US support. The only difference is enhanced electronic systems and independent tank commander thermal sights. No point talking about this, never going to happen. Does the Saudi M1 use the same DU mesh as the US or an export mesh.

We can maintain them on our own, if you are not full of confidence, I am.

This is an old news, 3 years old one in fact. The altay tank is a new news however.

Are u going to buy Altay or not?

I thought u guys wanted tech transfer from the Turks which ur not getting from the US n Germans..:what:

Besides if u got Abrahims why do u wanna buy 800 Leopard too. I mean both of them r good but quite similar too so why different tanks???

If one pulls out, the other doesn't. It is called not depending on a single source.

Abrams is a good tank for KSA, they should also buy Altay tanks from turkey.

Are you sure that isn't being a bit naive. Egypt has had its F-16s for decades and although progress is being made we wont be able to fully maintain our aircraft if support is cut leading to an Iran scenario. Many advanced and powerful nations also require outside support to maintain their equipment what matters is the extent of the support.

It would have been naive if I wasn't working in a military airbase and almost seeing first hand the F-15 and typhoon maintenance work and people.

So yeah I know what I am talking about.

Ok, just for clarification. You are telling me that SA can maintain all its aircraft alone without foreign advisers and technicians and produces all spare parts for every fighter 100% in country.
