67% want military operation in North Waziristan: poll

a bit to add,

Haqqanis are no more part of negotiations there. the real stake holders are al-qaeda and 313 brigade. :) and that is the reason, that the negotiations will be tough.

although, the amount of drone strikes confirm that p@ki intel has eyes and ears inside... :)

Military offensive in NWA soon: US media

Updated at: 0633 PST, Tuesday, December 21, 2010

WASHINGTON: A US television, citing the sources deeply-rooted in Pakistan Army, has claimed that Pakistan military officials are mulling over carrying out a deadliest offensive against the hiding militants and fleeing insurgents in North Waziristan Agency (NWA), adding that the said operation may take as less as 6 months to commence, Geo News reported.

Citing the sources, the channel also claimed that recent drone strikes were aimed at targeting insurgents that have fled towards northern tribal areas.

A Pakistani army official told US television that the number of escaping insurgents is on rise in North Waziristan district and according to him, the fleeing insurgents are taking hide in Terah Valley.

“Three US drone attacks also took place in ‘Terah Valley’ of Khyber Agency on Friday which killed 57 Taliban,” he told media.

“Pakistan wants more control over drone program as this could help save precious lives of common men in tribal areas,” the channel quoted him as arguing.

According to US channel, Friday drone attacks were the latest and maiden drone attacks in Khyber Agency.

Army official also told US channel that Pakistan army was planning to launch a military offensive in North Waziristan district as insurgents are using the agency as ‘safe heavens’ and ‘protected sanctuaries’ to plot and carry out attacks inside Afghanistan.

Also, insurgents, hiding in NWA, have launched several terror strikes in Pakistan, army official further said.

The Tirah drone strikes reportedly killed Ibn Amin, the most dreaded Taliban commander in Swat.

When looked at in the context of the reports that the Swat Taliban were planning an offensive after Winter in the Swat valley, in conjunction with Al Qaeda, then these strikes would appear to be primarily focusing on targets primarily threatening Pakistan.

If that continues, and we see more Pakistan-focused militant groups targeted, and especially their leaders taken out, the potential of a NW Operation becomes far more likely as the threat to the areas the PA is currently deployed in will be reduced to a degree, and therefore potentially free up some resources for a NW Operation.

I think the Survey poll was done in US consulate building in CIA officer's main head office in presence of 5 people in room :cheesy:

67 % hmm wonder who said no

Must be the guy who recently got called back to US for security reason:cheesy:

If you are going to question the veracity of the poll, you should at least provide some rational arguments to support your position.

Talib are not the future of Afghanistan , civil war is - basically a replay of Najibullah and the Muajhid, except this time Najibullah will get US funds and weapons - it won't be about who will sit in Kabul, but whether or not there will be a Afghanistan -- a sad and for Pakistan, an eventuality that it's government has historically tried to prevent..

No one can scratch out Taliban from Afghanistan. If they don't have any future then someone has to give them or else there will be no solution.

You mean posting some links from the internet with no legitimacy.I don't see any difference between his your and mine position because
none of us are able to hold any credible source. All are doing the same. The same goes to the poll which even if we assume true we still cannot come to a common ground.

3 more TTP leaders killed in Afghanistan:

Three high ranking TTP officials killed in Afghanistan – The Express Tribune

Killed in Konar, which validates the Pakistani allegation that Taliban terrorists from Swat, Bajaur and Mohman have been given sanctuary in Afghanistan from where they plot, train and carry out terrorists attacks in Pakistan. In fact the PA has accused the Governor of Konar of colluding with the Pakistani Taliban, with support from Afghan intelligence, several times. Mullah Fazlullah, the leader of the Swat Taliban, is also alleged to be hiding in that region in Afghanistan.

So perhaps the US should eliminate the terrorist sanctuaries.on its side, instead of constantly whining at Pakistan about ' do more' .
