LAHORE: On April 12, Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut had stated that Muslims should be stripped of voting rights. In the wake of the controversy, The Express Tribune presents a list of six quotes by Hindu nationalists that will leave you cringing.

1. Vinayak Damodar Savarkar

“It is useless to simply declare the Muslim League communal. That is no news. The fact is that the whole Moslem community is communal, including the Congressite Moslems.”

– Former Hindu Mahasabha president Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, who coined the term Hindutva.

2. Madhav Sadashiv Gowalkar

“…Stay in the country wholly subordinated to the Hindu Nation, claiming nothing, deserving no privileges, far less any preferential treatment –not even citizens’ rights.”

– Former Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief Madhav Sadashiv Gowalkar

3. Narendra Modi

“Another thing, any person if we are driving a car, we are a driver, and someone else is driving a car and we’re sitting behind, even then if a puppy comes under the wheel, will be painful or not? Of course, it is. If I’m a chief minister or not, I’m a human being. If something bad happens anywhere, it is natural to be sad.”

– Then Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi on the 2002 Gujarat carnage.

4. Bal Thackeray

“It is my dream that we would create a Hindustan of the Hindus. Maharashtrians or Punjabis alone cannot fight against Islam. That is why, I appeal to all Hindus to break the linguistic wall around them and come together so that we can bring Islam in this country down to its knees.”

– Former Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray

5. Sadhvi Deva Thakur

“The population of Muslims and Christians is growing day by day. To rein in this, Centre will have to impose emergency, and Muslims and Christians will have to be forced to undergo sterilisation so that they can’t increase their numbers.”

– All-India Hindu Mahasabha vice-president Sadhvi Deva Thakur

6. Sadhvi Prachi

“Agar ‘Khan’ nahin hote toh aaj nischit roop mein garibon key saath nyaye hota.” (Had Salman not been a Muslim, justice would have been served to inderprivelleged victims)

– BJP MP Sadhvi Prachi

Could you co-exist with a Taoist though? :bad:
You've underestimated us. :-)
CDee,Taoism like every religion focuses on "way" or "path", i.e. the appropriate way to behave and to lead others. Infact every religion in its true sense teaches us to maintain a harmonious relationship between nature, humanity, and the divine. If the followers of every religion could comprehend this simple fact then world would have been a peaceful place today.

Btw why this smiley :bad: ??? You dont like Taoists??

He would not feel safe in India today.
He still lives in India. Lol

Taoism and Tantra are the same, I think. So we co-exist with Taoists already. My only wish is that there are more of them here - Tantrics and Taoists. The uptight British scholars, when defining Hinduism according to their own ideas, classified it into only six schools and left out the left-handed paths like Tantra, Animism, Aghori, etc. This combined with the Victorian morals imposed then, made the Tantric practices taboo. To answer @Chinese-Dragon's question, "yes we could".

And @levina . I remember seeing a few FB posts from some hard-line TN Muslims, which went something like, Abdul Kalam is an insult to science and their faith. No use trying to use him to prove your point.

Nah I love Taoists, I just think that smiley is funny. :D

There's always a black sheep!!
Only a galoot (like the hard liners from TN) would under estimate APJ's contribution in India's progress. I'm wondering if these hardliners put their religion before country?? .... ofcourse!!

That's the point. If people who grew up in TN which is multicultural just as the rest of India and even more tolerant than the rest of India, end up as galoot (I dunno what that means), how would a picture of Abdul Kalam and a Shankaracharya impress someone from Pakistan? He'd either use the "no true scotsman" line of argument(which he did) or say that minorities in India are intimidated into doing this...

Those ppl are exceptions, APJ has a huge fan following in India. I wish he had a PR team working for him on social networking sites.

Lol
True!
And I should not be surprised.
