Can it transport tanks?
An Indian Ministry of Defence (MoD) statement marking the launch of the third vessel said, "These ships will play a significant role in the transportation of main battle tanks, armoured vehicles, and troops of the Indian Army during amphibious operations."

The LCUs can also be deployed on humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR) and search-and-rescue (SAR) operations.

The MoD statement added that the LCUs will be armed with two indigenously produced CRN-91 Sarath 30 mm naval gun system turrets (with fire control from a BEL supplied electro-optical director) that can provide fire support ashore.

Alongside up to 160 armed troops embarked, vehicle lift capacity is one 65 ton tank like the Arjun or two 45 ton tanks like the T-72/80, or four 13.5 ton BMP Infantry Fighting Vehicles. SATCOM and the ELK 7036 communications intelligence (COMINT) system will be standard fit on these craft.

what you meant??

This is LCU,India possess LST and LPD as well.India will soon purchase 4 Larger
More landing vessels in the range of 4,000-6,000 tons displacement.
Our fleet is now old with few ships. A fleet with about 20+ ships of this category will ensure that we can drop off men and armoured vehicles in good number in our vicinity.

.
Guys just a question...How many new ships have Indian Navy received this year alone????

If we count only big warships then Ins Kochi and Ins Kadmatt. Ins Sindhukirti submarine too considering we got it after 8 years of long upgradation. While number of smaller vessels like in the above news and other patrol vessels.
PS: Next year we'll see some really big warships joining Indian navy though. Arihant, Kalvari, 3rd of Kolkata class, 3rd of Kamorta class etc

Indian Navy has some 10 LCUs(650 ton-850 ton),9 LSTs(4 1100 ton and 5 5600 ton). We're making more LCUs and hopefully more LSTs will follow. The thing is,India only has 2 proper marine brigades,340 Independent Infantry Brigade and 91 Infantry Brigade for Amphibious Warfare along with 54 Infantry Division, and current capability is more than enough for them(Of course you're not expecting to deliver these 20000 soldiers concurrently).however, joint IN-IA IBG Marine(which will consist 5000 marines and will be for expeditionary operations) will need more elaborate preparation, for which IN is buying 4 LPDs.But its sad to see that IBG Marine core is yet to get sanction.

we need more LPDs,along with some larger LSTs.We can compare our fleet with Japan. They doesn't have any LPDs(as they don't need to,their Helicopter Destroyer works in tandem with LST),but their Osumi Class LSTs are larger(14000 ton) and can carry upto 1000 soldier and 10 MBTs for short duration.

Indian LPDs will be larger and will carry similar number of troops but more vehicles.

The good news is ISI already has the blue print to any ships built in GRSE :D

And what are they gping to do with the blue prints??? Its a LCU not a Arihant class SSBN or Kolkata class Destroyer
