Featured 5 Rounds of Failed Talks & Indian Army Prepares for Long Haul: The Implications

Open Points For PDF Members' Discussion:
  1. Assuming no 'hot war scenario', If PLA decides to stay forever, it will make sure that IA also ante-up on the required infrastructure for LAC. Consequently, it would mean that IA will also stay there forever, digging deep and securing the LAC till Siachen! How would it affect Pakistan in-terms of Siachen dispute?
  2. Considering the current situation, for IA, LAC turns into another LOC-oriented dispute which will require India to move troops & equipment from LOC to LAC, how can PA take leverage from this situation at LOC?

Unless PA and PLA attack simultaneously on LAC and LOC, there is no worthwhile advantage against Indian forces. The amount of time now available at the hands of Indian military in peace time, they will beef up defences, make new roads, bridges, military establishments and could raise another mountain division at Pathankot which was promised earlier to the Strike Mountain Corps. IAF has around 5 AFBs in the area and has enough air transports (fixed wing and rotary) to bring in troops and equipment from all nook and corner of India and land them at these AFBs.

India does not even have any dedicated bomber aircraft ... meanwhile the Chinese have the H-6K and other fighter bombers like the JH-7A. The only one who has the capability to perform carpet bombing is the PLAAF.
PAF has JF-17's stationed in the area and can form a good strike element when combined with Mirages for bombing missions. PAF needs to make a proper AFB at Gilgit in case Skardu AFB is targeted again and again in war by IAF, the C-130's are capable of landing there but not sure if Fighter aircrafts land there. Towards south, there is one at Kamra and will have to see if Risalpur gets activated in war to host fighter squadrons.

@Signalian do you think that it is feasible to make a AFB in Gilgit?Keeping in mind the narrow valley as compared to Skardu, only ATR can land on gilgit airport.

Not much choice in this region.

Is there a patch on highways made recently for CPEC transports where aicrafts can land in GB region?

Also brings up the point of STOVL/VTOL aircraft for operating at high altitudes and snowy conditions then engine requirements, payload capacity for take off etc. A kashmir specific version which could also be able to operate from a helicopter carrier or flight deck with enough space on any other surface combat or support vessel for PN. Just food for thought since PAF isn't inclined towards such aircraft AFAIK.

there is no such patch anywhere, roads are mostly along rivers and mountains

Skardu AFB is taken out in war. From which AFB in the region will PAF operate from then?
as of now , in the north there are airports at Mingora (saidu sharif), Chitral, Gilgit with runways measuring a mile to 1800 Ms (skardu runways is 2 mile plus). Chilas is but a heliport only. all these air strips have no air force setup or hardened shelters.

I think they need to look at options in Mingora and chitral
