5,000 Pinaka rockets to be produced every year


Nagpur: The Ordnance Factory Ambajhari (OFAJ) near here is all set to enhance its manufacturing capacity of Pinaka rockets from the present 1,000 rockets to 5,000 every year for the Indian Army, sources said.

"Pinaka rocket is one of the major projects (of the OFAJ). The multiple rocket launcher has successfully been indigenised and production of Pinaka rocket is in association with the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO)," official sources said.

"Pinaka rocket is operable at extreme conditions of temperature ranging from -10 degree centigrade to 55 degree centigrade. These rockets, with a payload of 100 kgs, have a striking range of 40 kms and can bring devastation around 500 kms of surrounding areas of the target. It has already been tested and inducted into the arsenal of the Indian Army. It is a mammoth project of the Ambajhari Ordnance Factory," they said.

As army chef have already said that the modern armies have moved on and we are still inducting likes of Pinaka/Smerch.

As Missiles are more accurate thus cheaper and more destructive.

we need all 3 of them. with the diference of their operational range (40, 90 & 150) all are effective & best in their catagory.
it will be much encouraging to see them exported to friendly countries & governments.

More accurate agree....but more cheaper?? how come... just think how much damage these multi barrel rocket system can do, it can destroy entire communication line of enemy, tank formation, infantry troops, it would be raining in hell.

For that we need Prahaar missiles to them out at long distance, but I don't think Prahaar will be ideal against moving infantry or armor, for them we need multi-barrel rocket system.

And loosing cool can't win wars listing is good habit.

can any1 give me any info about the status of mbrl project going on for 90-120km rage??? heard that it has been going on since 2007 and expected to be completed for mass production by 2014???

I think it is for the eastern sector. There's enough firepower on Pakistani border. Compared to that, here in east it is totally deserted. Few vehicles patrolling, there's hardly any rocket forces present here. We need to ensure that Pinakas blanket everything from Sikkim to Ziro in Arunachal so that they can be integrated with UAVs and fired in case of a conflict.

We also need large quantities of Shaurya and BrahMos missiles here badly. The stupid MOD has been overarming the dead western border while we're virtually naked here in terms of missile systems.

For that we need Prahaar missiles to them out at long distance, but I don't think Prahaar will be ideal against moving infantry or armor, for them we need multi-barrel rocket system.

I think you mean Shaurya. Prahaar's range is 150 Km and is meant as a tactical ballistic missile. Though, Prahaar could really see a large demand in our NE sector. We hardly have any tactical missile or rocket platforms deployed here.
