Well they have clear pictures from inside Chernobyl back in 1986 (before digital) . The radiation was high enough to kill people.

I'm sure they used special cameras with shielding.

I think they went with a design that took longer to implement.

Their moon rocket N1 exploded two weeks before Apollo 11 on the cosmodrome.

NASA knew it through CIA flights but proceeded with their expedited deadline since they were already ready for it. If that rocket hadnt exploded, we may have seen Soviets first on the moon too.

I think the designer of both missions was the same guy- Koroyolov, since he was beat to the moon he wanted to make a Mars landing, but again their N1 rockets didnt work as expected.

Unfortunately they didnt have the Nazis working on their programs to help them out with Rocket troubles

The Saturn rocket to the moon wasdesigned by him, he was present in launches to the moon in the houston control room.

He was saved from Nuremberg since he was too smart to let go of.
