Apollo-11-on-the-moon-picture-950x690.jpg

My thanks goes out to the astronauts and the thousands of people who worked on the Apollo program to make this historic moment possible.

.
Americans in general and NASA in particular showed the way.

That we as people can do wonders if we put our heads together and do something constructive.

it also was a humbling experience that showed how one tiny specie evolved on one tiny planet could dare to leave the planet and head for the stars.

Thanks for sharing.

RIP Neil Armstrong

So when are they restarting the manned moon missions?

So when are they restarting the manned moon missions?
When there is a need for it.

The Apollo project, and its kind no matter who engages at that level of tasks, is unique in that it is easy to start but extremely difficult to sustain.

When you know the project is going to be one-off, like the Apollo project was, your logistics are going to be vastly different from a long term project. The analogy is buying vs renting a place to live. If you buy, your furniture is going to be higher quality and durable, and you will need your own appliances, which will compels you to spend more money for higher quality durable goods. If you rent your domicile, any furniture is most likely portable and less sturdy, making them lower quality and lower durability over time and use.

Suppliers for your parts will know that your project will not be around for long. Take your car, for example. There is a vast consumer base for a car than for the Moon. The keyword here is 'consumer'. Who is exploiting the Moon and for what purposes ? No one. On the other hand, the need for daily transportation is real and immediate. If you are going to enter the automobile business, you need to convince that consumer base that you are going to be around for a long time, at least for the duration of the warranty you promised, which is usually several years. For the Moon, once we made the point that we can get there, unless we can convince the many industries that supplied parts for the initial landing that we will have a Moon base and colonies and so on, those industries are not going to be focused on the Moon or may even go out of business.

Now let us talk about the human side of this. How many astronauts are you going to have and for how long ? This mean an astronaut training program can be short or long term. The Moon landing project requires workers, from laborers to technicians to engineers, and to probably the most important position -- program managers. The program manager is the person who must have the 'helicopter view' of the entire project, whether he is in charge of Propulsion or Avionics or Environmental. He oversees the budget and manpower requirements and justifications. He make sure schedules are met and hold accountable those people and/or circumstances that failed to meet. If the project is short duration, like the Apollo Moon landing, people like these are not going to bother to document their experiences, from successes to failures about overcoming problems encountered. Why should they ? Yes, they will have reports, etc. But that is not the same as formalizing processes and solutions intended for later generations. In other words, these workers will not be training their replacements. Am not talking about immediate replacements because we will always have attrition in any industry and projects. Am talking about training our children and grandchildren, in a manner of speaking.

This is why the Moon landing is easy to start but difficult to sustain.

Blah blah blah....win the ongoing space race with the Soviets...blah blah blah.

Does that sufficiently summarize your input? :P

That is always what I find impressive about the United friggin States. If it's a challenge, you folks somehow claw your way to the top. Always and every time.

Respect!!!

No film can survive the radiation on the moon without demage. The fact that those pictures are of superb quality, shows that they are fake and made in a studio surrounding.

Only dumb americans think they are real.

Did they?
Yes! They did land on the Moon. No question about it!

However, what we are being shown is probably not the entire truth. Airbrushed images and radio transmissions being cut short. Like this one.....

Timothy Good writes that HAM radio operators receiving the VHF signals directly picked up the following message which was later screened by NASA from the public.

Mission Control:What's there ? Mission Control calling Apollo 11......

Apollo 11:
These babies are huge, sir ... enormous....Oh, God, you wouldn't believe it! I'm telling you there are other space craft out there... lined up on the far side of the crater edge... they're on the moon watching us.

So, what were these enormous 'babies'?? 'Other spacecraft out there'?

Like I said, we aren't being told the truth of really what's out there on the Moon.

Here's one for the road...
